Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Alp d'Huez work over the summer

Poster: A snowHead
I've been up a few times over the summer and starting to see some new building/piste work around the place.

New snow canons seems to be appearing on the Sagnes, Signal, Romains/Marmottes piste.

At Les Bergers car park they have started to build new accommodation. The same over at Eclose with a new hotel and apartments being built - looks like a big development.

Ski pass office at the top of resort being extended.

Ski lift at the bottom of La Fare in Vaujany nearly completed.

A new building has started to appear next to the Marmottes1 but I haven't worked out what it is yet.

Some photos to follow.

@howiet, Thanks. I suspect I'll be fully using my 10 days this winter. Will call in for a chat.

I landed at the Altiport at the beginning of June and must say I was surprised at how dead the resort was, just one cafe open on the far side from the Altiport. We walked all the way across the area that is being dug up there and did wonder what all the coloured marker posts were - now we know.

Cheers

You say it so casually ! Cool way to arrive, when you say "I landed" do you mean you piloting ?

Yes out of season it is pretty quiet. About 1800 permanent inhabitants, peak occupation in February is approaching 40,000 I think. A lot of the larger blocks remain closed through the summer.

@howiet, I should be out at the end of the week. Will give you a call if you are around. Got some construction work of my own to do, as well as some biking hopefully.

I am seriously impressed ! Do you not have to have an "extra" qualification to land there ? My son has the altiport on Microsoft Flight simulator and we have managed to destroy most of the buildings so far Laughing

@Claude B, Yes OK, maybe give you a shout at weekend ? Got one of those water heaters like yours and think I have an "innovative" way of squeezing it in.

@skitow, One thing to be aware of. Mine came without anything to mount it on. The instructions do specify what you need to get.

@skitow, We were very jealous once we landed at Gap Tallard (our base for a few days) and saw a few planes with skis on....

Re additional rating - for heavier aircraft you do, but not for Microlights (and yes the pic in my first post both planes are Microlights!).

I once did a couple of hours with the legendary Henri Giraud in his DR400 F-BOPT doing landings there, nice to have his signature in my logbook. For the first half hour we had two passengers - a couple of English ladies out for a pleasure flight. I wonder to this day quite what they made of me being instructed on my first approach and landing at an altiport in snow.. "Plus Moteur... PLUS MOTEUR..."
