Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Have skiied past steaming sulphurous pits in amongst the snow at Kusatsu and seen evidence of recent eruptions on slopes, but terribly unfortunate to actually be caught up in one.

From my amateurish perspective, for the Eastern Alps and Dolomites, ECM 00z suggesting very little snow, whereas the same GFS run still predicting lots?

Some good stats from Meteo Alpes.

- Since November 6.09m of snow fell in Val d'Isère at 1850m.
- Since December 5.50m of snow fell in Tignes at 2080m

The total record for winter in Val d'Isère (since 1990) is 7.98m in 1994/1995.

My take on it is green ok-ish, blue good, purple better. Yellow bad, orange worse, red terrible.

It has more or less disappeared in the 12z for St. Anton. It's a pity, I'm heading there on Saturday and it would have been a nice top up of fresh snow.

Where would people recommend travelling 2-3 hours from Chamonix on Friday? Looking for the best off piste conditions around- was thinking perhaps Monte Rosa which looks to get a decent amount of snow on Friday, and also should be less affected by recent rain due to its height. Any thoughts?

@BobinCH, looks acceptable given how appalling conditions are this year...

Snowfall amounts for the Alps Friday/Saturday have dropped off considerably. Looks good for the Pyrenees though.

Still, should be a fair amount of sunshine about over next few days!

The forecast is for cold weather for the alps, not the Pyrenees. They’ll be more under the influence of high pressure rather than cold from the north/north west
