Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@Game of Snows, Sorry not sure - all I know is that above about 1950m in Sestriere it was light powder (or wind affected depending on where you were!) but below that it felt a bit heavier and more sticky.

Still looks like after a relatively brief pause that there‘ll be a return to cooler and more unsettled weather from mid month.

Here is the rainfall radar. It shows perfectly the retour d’ost and how localised it is. Very similar to set ups in the Uk that don’t make it across say the Pennines.

In the middle of Winter.

That's the flat, west-facing bit at the bottom of the valley. There's never any skiing there. Can you see any lifts? The Braitaz ski region of Chapelle is top right, out of picture and the Cret Beni area around the corner to the left.

I skied La Chapelle on the weekend and also Chatel, much of the skiing of which are 1500m and below. Both are skiing very well.

When was the last time you skied here? Was it when your french gf chucked you because you spent too much of your time looking at webcams whilst playing with your petit zizou? "lol".

Don't ruin it fo r him, this recent rain shower is the only glimmer of negative misery he has been able to grasp onto this season, let him enjoy the day.

Unexpectedly raining in Innsbruck now, hopefully snowing on the mountains. Last weeks rain and snow doesn't seem to have done much to snow depths, but hasn't been great for snow quality.

Powder day at Stubai too...

I've gotta head to Laax for work today. Praying some of the snow from the south makes it over the ridge...

Lol.

There have been days and days of rain at low to mid altitudes, in places like Les Carroz (France).

Highly unusual for the time of year.

Needs reporting by honest reporters.

@Whitegold, you really seem to take the greatest pleasure in upsetting and irritating people.

There is nothing honest about that. Nor do your posts represent an honest reflection of what is going on (it would be equally untrue to say we’ve had endless days of sun and powder to play in, but no one has).

It just reflects your desire to be unpleasant. It’s not what you say, but the way that you choose to say it and the clearly apparent intent to present an unremittingly miserable view of the world.

It’s a shame you seek to do that, I can only assume it is because you yourself are very miserable. That’s a pity. But if in some way you think that your sneering is providing an honest reflection of what the actual conditions are then you are quite mistaken. You don’t need to constantly contribute negatively, but you seem to want to do so.

You do it year after year. It is very dull.

Please stop.

Yeah it is misleading nonsense. Check the Grand Massif thread, with reports from
people who are there, not from someone trawling through dozens of webcam images from their bedroom in an effort to find one that looks bad.

Yes the storm last week brought heavy rain for two and a half days. Since then in the northern French alps it has been calm, mild and often sunny. The pistes froze but there’s still loads of snow. Last night brought a refreshing rather than significant amount of snow to not far above village level in both the Grand massif and Portes du Soleil.

@nozawaonsen, he's been doing it for years. He is not going to stop. He is weird. Imagine the thought process behind thinking "in going to try to bum out some random dudes who like snow" and then carry on relentlessly for years! Laughing

One of the strangest trolls I have encountered on the world wide web.

After a period of mild weather temperatures are set to head below average for mid January from tomorrow.

There should also be a fair amount of sunshine over the next few days and wind speeds should drop. All in all a fine spell of weather.

That said in many areas it will take a while for the significant risk of avalanches to settle. So care will still be essential.

Next week looks like the start of a further unsettled spell. At present this does not look anything like as stormy as recent weather and temperatures look cooler so the likelihood is of snow to low levels. But it is still too far off to have any confidence in the details.

wrong Noza. All the snow will melt, the runs will turn green and the resorts will have the mountain bike trails open again.

I think narcissism is the basic human instinct that motivates trolls. They feel a sense of importance by provoking a reaction.

Better they keep trolling than releasing their frustrations in more destructive ways, in my opinion.

According to GFS this would bring in the first band of snow on Tuesday.

Followed by this on Wednesday

Before settling into a sustained snowy spell with temperatures well below average.

Snowfall would be focused mainly on the northern side of the Alps (and arriving a day or so later in the east).

All still a way away mind you and still need ECM to get fully behind (it’s not far off).

We skied la rosiere last new years day having looked over from les Arcs and seen that the snowline looked a bit lower, albeit still mainly ribbons of artificial piste between fields of grass.
As we crossed the ridge to La Thuile, everything became white. La Thuile had fantastic wide snow cover, La Rosiere had none.
