Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Suggest some skis

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Me 95kg, Advanced skier, but not expert. Comfortable on pisted runs and some off piste. Will get down a bump run , whcih although I will ski in control will not be viewed as stylish.

Other skis Head Magnum Supershape 177 (2010/11 model) and Atomic Vantage 90 184

This year I really enjoyed skiing on the Vantage though both trips involved v. warm weather March and April and really after an hour the hard pack was not that hard so the ski was great all day and was fun in slushy bumps and soft piste snow.

Next year I should be skiing 3 times and 2 of those trips are likely to involve riding my daughter in a sit ski. The Vantage are actually too long to ski comfortably with the sitskiand the optimum for me is a ski that's no longer than 177. I've fallen a little out of love with the heads, as I don't find them great in bumps and in afternoon slush.

I will say bump skiing is not my strength but was significantly better with the Vantage.

I would like a piste orientated that can cope with variable conditions through the day that will help me in moguls than the Magnum (I fully put my hands up that this is the pilot), and is a little wider than the head in the range of 75- 80mm as when riding the sit ski I'm usually doing this in warm weather. However this ski would be doubling as the ski that I would take out on any icy days and days when I know I'm charging around on piste.

Would like to keep costs down hence I'm looking in the sales. Salomon X drive 8.0 ti and FS and Scott Majic have caught my attention.

Any suggestions, please.

Dynastar Cham 2.0 87 in a 178cm length. I tried the 97 and really liked it.

thanks for the suggestion but very much in the space of my Atomic Vantage that I intend to keep.

FYI The Scott Black Majic has a lot of tip rocker, mine (177s) have about 30cm rocker at the front - so might be effectively a lot shorter than you expect. I still like them in soft snow, but in hard conditions at any kind of speed I find there is too much flapping about at the front.

Thanks - if it were not for the sitsking I can go longer. Longer skis are not ideal when riding a sit ski. May Not sure I like what you say about speed with these

@dan100, I have a pair of the Salomon FS 8.0 that I use for just piste skiing, (I don't normally like salomons of old, but these are different) quite stiff and were really superb in the slush at Easter, just cut through it, and were quick in all the slushy bumps, they are reasonably wide for a piste ski (80mm) and i have them in 168 as i like short turns, but they are pretty stable in fast long turns as well. Were fun in the morning when it was hard and they really grip and feel quite damp, but for hard moguls you need quite good technique as the tails can really hang up, they are not much fun in hard moguls at all to be honest, much prefer other skis for that.

Get the Vantage in a 176cm then? Familiar but shorter.

I'm not sure you'll end up with anything more 'suitable' than you're Vantages. Love my Vantage 100s and would probably wear these over my Salomon 8.0s even for piste skiing. Having said that I did get on really well with the pair of Rossignol Hero LTs I was provided by UCPA for the ice this Christmas (but I didn't even take my Atomics or Salomons).

The vantage is great but would have thought there is a Ski between 75-80mm that would be stronger on piste and would be good in moguls as well.

I had a pair of Rossi Experience 80's Xe on hire, that I enjoyed through the bumps. They were easy to turn, both long and short, and held a decent edge on hard pack.

@dan100, The salomon 8.0 ti would prob be more forgiving in bumps, the tail is less stiff than the fs and it would still be good on piste.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

@dan100, Enjoy them, they will be fine on hard icy mornings, especially if you put a better side edge angle on them, the only reason i got the fs was i wanted a dedicated piste ski, I have something else for moguls. My fs respond quite well to moving the binding on the track, so have a play about to find the right position on the ski.
