Skiplex rises from the dead as 'SkiEasy'

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I'd heard a rumour that someone was trying to resurrect the old Skiplex machine in Chiswick, after Skiplex went into administration earlier in the summer. It looks like it is happening, Dukes Meadows (the tennis and golf centre where Skiplex resided in a former squash court) has announced they are launching 'SkiEasy' on October 9th.

Having learned there initially I have an irrational sentimental attachment, so nice to see them back in business. Good luck to them I say.

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Hopefully it will go well.

But not to repeat the old mgts style who were happy to mess around our school who had booked a large block of slope time with them as Skieasy does lend itself to Sleazy rather easily (not wanting to take anything away from easyjet of course).

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

this is great news as it's a brilliant way to improve technique rapidly, even when you have skied for years.

I thought Chelski was rubbish and so did my daughters. Never again . Completely disagree!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@SophieFP, can’t see how the momentum resembles skiing in reality at all.

Not like snow, like any dry slope, so much more picky with your technique, which is dispiriting until you improve, which means you get much better for real stuff.
Momentum similar due to angler of slope and yoir weight, tho friction slightly higher so speed slightly slower for same slope angle. Relativity.

@SophieFP, the fact that you aren’t actuall travelling surely reduces its utility.

I’d say a dry slope better. And you learn to deal with inclement weather. At least, if you’re at Hillend.

Think we've had this debate before re whether the physics are comparable. Clincher for me was Chemmy Alcott in some pimping video looking very uncomfortable on it.

@Dave of the Marmottes, I think you’re right.

I wouldn’t have spoken, except it was described as “brilliant” which it patently is not!

If so, I see what you mean. Interesting camera angle selected for the shots of her skiing.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Interesting. They used very different shots of her versus the demonstration chap. I'd say that there's probably knack to it, acquisition of which likely takes more time than the film crew had.

I don't feel that's an issue with dry slopes, where anyone who can ski can still ski without any particular conversion.

Suggested justification: that looks similar to Snowflex, which you'd be riding at some dry slopes. This is more different because of the different mechanics, discussed elsewhere.

 You know it makes sense.

@philwig, exactly. Demonstration chap looked a lot more comfortable on it than she did.

Did not like it at all for snowboarding, just couldn't get a feel for it, much prefer dry slopes. My partner who is a skier found the opposite and loved this over dry slopes
