Ski fleece fit, Berghaus

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I bought some Berghaus fleece's as they were in the sale http://www.blacks.co.uk/mens/206919-berghaus-men-s-hartsop-half-zip-fleece-black-grey.html. I have long arms so trying to get a fit/size that suits me is difficult.

Size Medium - is short in arm length but OK in the body
Size Large - is OK in arm length but big in the body.

Are 'Ski' fleece's meant to be fitted and tight or really baggy with lots of room to move? Shall I wash the Large size and shrink it?

For those of you with long arms, can you recommend a brand that has a good fit?

Don't think you can shrink polyester by washing it.

I'm happy with Decathlon fleeces but I don't know whether my arms count as long or not.

@NewSki, I think you'll struggle to shrink a fleece, they're not made out of wool.

Don't buy clothes that don't fit. They will look terrible and will annoy you because the arms are too short or whatever. My partner has the long arms problem too (6'2" 75kg and arms that can reach the moon) and buys shirts from specialists or has them made. For ski wear, he has Haglofs and Jack Wolfskin tops. Other Scandi brands may work too, as they are often cut for taller, skinnier types. Berghaus is not.

@Scarlet, I am a little taller and heavier than your partner and hate this problem!

I would try to find a fleece that has thumb holes/hand gaiters.

We have a number of fleeces in the family made by Norrøna, Houdini, Icebreaker and Rab and all have a bit of extra length in the arms when you need to use the thumb holes.

The Houdini Power fleece is slim fitting with long(ish) arms.

@NewSki, some European brands eg Mammut and Eider have a slimmer fit, if you are willing to pay their prices

I had the same issue as you (although I don't think my arms are particularly long oddly), I found North Face fleeces fit perfectly, but I haven't been impressed with the quality, they bobble straight away and I've had multiple zips break.

That said...every cloud and all that...I decided to try Salomon tops and got one during one of the many sales and was impressed...to be fair its not quite the same style as the North Face gear, the fit is more snug, but the arms fit fine and the material is thinner yet equally as warm, if not warmer, so better frankly!
