Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Boots- reviews/opinions/general advice

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,
I'm about to buy a new pair of ski boots. I'm in no particular rush as I'm done for this season, but I'm heading to Xscape this Thursday and as they have an Ellis Brigham I thought I'd have a look. I've never had an issue with comfort and have never really found even rental boots uncomfortable so that's not a priority. I'm looking for a good boot that's going to last, I'm only going to be doing two weeks next season, but will be working a season in 2018/19. I'm a good skier, comfortable on all piste, occasionally venture off piste and starting to attempt some park. I've looked at these four boots, would anyone recommend any of them or am I looking in completely the wrong place? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Quick vote for salomon QXT boots, just done a season in mine and they are fabulous, light, comfortable and an all-around joy. Also thumbs up for Glide and Slide in Otley who supplied and in particular for Ali who fitted.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Gea RS is a touring boot.

@gabbooc, whilst the reviews will say boots are suitable for X, Y or Z the only thing that truly matters is fit, get measured, make sure they do a shell check and invest in some decent footbeds either off the shelf or custom made (depending on your foot)

if you are venturing into the park the only one on that list of 4 that i wouldn't touch is the scarpa, as a free tour boot the walk mode is not designed to tolerate repetitive hard landings if you are doing park stuff then a rigid spine (ie without walk mode) alpine boot is a better place to start

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@gabbooc, buy what ever the recommended boot fitter tells you to get! Especially if you are doing a season.

@gabbooc, Get to a specialist boot fitter. www.Solutions4feet.co.uk in Bicester are pretty damngood and offer a very very good after sales service.
CEM who works there posts on here occasionally Very Happy (i.e. 3 posts above!) Be sure to book an appointment, there is little chance of getting a good fitting or advice by turning up on spec.
