Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

We went New Year once and it was disappointing from what we normally had in March. There is much less snow cover and whilst we were there there was too much snow for them to get the top lifts safe hence compression of all the skiers in to the Alpine elevation so very busy.
This year the snow cover was brilliant though so you may have got away with it.
Also there is High season, Mid & Low.... then there is the special price for Christmas/New Year. Everything was more expensive meals out, lift passes etc.
So if you can only go then you should be ok but it will be busy, if you can go at a different time I would. We have never been back at that time again.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Pretty much repeating what's said above. I was there this year and conditions at christmas and new year were very good. Plenty of snow, pretty much everything open, but base is still a little low so a few rocks, branches etc not yet covered. Was told that this year was better than average Christmas by locals. Crowds were pretty big, some long queues for lifts and busy pistes. While its true accommodation costs sky rocket, other prices generally stay the same (restaurants, lift pass etc.). Exceptions may be "special events" e.g. nightclubs and restaurants offering special menus which may bump up the price.

If you can go later in the year its a bit of a no brainer to avoid christmas. If you go at Christmas expect "OK" snow conditions but know there is a risk of conditions not being great. (Although on current trends seems a lot safer bet than Europe!).
