Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Schladming or Flachau for lads trip next year?

 Poster: A snowHead

I've been on a different thread about Schladming and I was struggling to work out whether it would be a good venue for our 3 night ski trip next year. There are normally 8-12 of us and we like to ski hard and party hard wherever possible. In recent years we have been to St Anton, Morzine, Mayrhofen, Soll and Saalbach.

From what I can tell Schladming is great for skiing and has some reasonable Apres but I'm not sure whether there's much in the way of late night bars or clubs? Someone suggested that Flachau might serve us better and a quick look on its website shows bars by the name of Yeti's Parthaus and Disco Burg, which maybe promising?

Does anyone know the two resorts and able to compare please?

@EdYarker, in Flachau there is also the Downtown bar complex . I have never been as it always strikes me as a lads sort of place, nor in fact to yetis even though it us only 100 yards from me. The umbrella bars/hofstadl/dampfkessel for apres till about 9... they will be jumping. Yetis does not get going till much later I would say

Thanks @holidayloverxx, from the online research I have done it would seem that Flachau is more lively in the evening than Schadming. How does the skiing compare?

@EdYarker, for 3 days it would be ok. You can get over to wagrain/alpendorf on the glink and get the bus to zauchensee. Schladming is a bigger mountain ... well several mountains joined by lifts....whereas Flachau is 1 mountain where you ski front and back and travel to other mountains. That said zauch is only 12 mins on the bus

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

OK thanks again @holidayloverxx, both areas' skiing sound fine for a long weekend.

@EdYarker, for a 3 nighter Schladming will be fine. The Hohenhaus Tenne is so big it tends to dominate the nightlife. Plenty of others though, List of Bars, Après Ski & Nightlife. There's Cult club, Szenario and La porta that seemed to be open late, and Angels for getting rid of any excess cash on 'dances'. Hotel owned places tend to close sooner than the independant places. Siglu served later than Cabalou. There was a building spree for the World Champs so I would imagine more accommodation than Flachau, so a greater chance of getting the three night booking you want.

@EdYarker, I'd head for Flachau.
There is better apres ski in the hofstadl and dampfkessel and there is more apres apres ski on offer within a smaller area!
Skiing for a short weekend is also about the same as there is plenty on both areas for 3 days.

Thank you @HutToHut, and @flangesax, for the advice and list of bars.
It looks like there are a few late options in both resorts, but I get the impression Flachau might have a bit more as @flangesax, states. It could just come down to, where I can find the best FVM accommodation. Skiing looks good in both too.

Many thanks once again.

Very tempting, but I think/hope I'll be spending the Winter in Fernie

Thanks to everyone for granting me an extra ski trip next year! I'm not too sure how well that will go down with the bank manager or diary manageress. I fully intend to try both areas at some point but it was really a case of which will work best for this particular group. @flangesax, and @holidayloverxx, we did Saalbach this year and had a superb time. I would be very happy to go back again this year as there's still plenty to explore (on and off the slopes) but we like to try new places as much as possible.

Did Verbier a few years back @Whitegold, great venue but left us all completely skint. It's probably even more pricey for Brits now, hence sticking to Austria.
