What one ski related purchase had the greatest impact on you? Could a pair of skis, bindings, boots, boot warmers, ear warmers... what ever - what is it and why did it rock your world.
For me it was probably my first touring bindings - Marker Dukes, suddenly changed my view on what skiing was. I was no longer tied to the lift and the resorts, skiing became a lot "bigger" than I thought. Second place, if I'm allowed would be my telemark set up... Free the heel free the mind

My first pair of decently fitted boots, which gave me feedback from the snow for the first time and led to my learning to adapt my skiing to different conditions.

My first plastic shelled telemark boots. I'd tried Telemark in a small way previously with the old leather boots, but for me the new plastic boots were a huge leap in torsional stiffness and control.

First pair of my own boots - Garmont - what a blessed relief from poorly-fitting hire boots, which were often damp from previous use. Okay, so the Garmont was not a great fit, but big improvement on hire boots.
Poly-prop, and then later merino, base layers - replaced cotton Maser tops. Nuff said.
Zipfit liners - I thought Strolz liners were the bee-knees until I got into Zipfit. Hands-down awesome. Great hold down, without hot-spots, and no need to crank the buckles down to bone-bending pressures.
Arc'teryx shell jacket - would never go back to insulated jackets again. So much flexibility in terms adjusting for temperature. Bullet-proof quality.
Kastle FX94 skis - they just work for me, in a way that no other ski has done - and I have had some fantastic skis.
...okay that is more than one purchase, but I got on a roll.

@tangowaggon, erm not sure the skis were issue. The wobbly bindings and boots with 16 inner soles and precisely ZERO heel was more of an issue

Cap-straps for snowboard bindings; locates and grips the boot so much better than the old-style over the top straps.

Properly fitted boots combined with tuition for the first time in many years (although I don't necessarily recommend doing a coaching course on brand new boots)
If not that, then attendance of a sH ski bash (OK it's not kit, but it was one of the best purchases)

- Front-entry boots - hugely improved control.
- Portable hi-fi - it's all about rhythm.
- A metal snowboard - sufficiently faster that you have to remember to slow down for bumps.
- GoreTex - improved comfort.

I have to say the two most important things on my body are my boots and my gloves. If either my feet or hands get cold, painful, uncomfortable it takes a lot of fun away.
In terms of kit kit, the advances in ski's have been great. Although ironically I'm kinda glad I had to use the skinnies and the carvers. But yeah, having within reason the best available under your feet makes for an even better experience. Bindings are the forgotten hero's but if you've ever had jippy bindings or worst still a binding terminally break whilst on the hill you'll know of it's criticality.
Everything is else is a nice to have after that...

My custom fit Salomon SX 90 Equipes bought in 1981. For the first time I had excellent control and feel at speed and they were comfortable. No need to lean down and unclip after every run.
It was a sad day at Steamboat when they broke in 2009.
But I found a pair of used SX 92 Equipes that are excellent stand ins.
Long live rear entry boots.
