Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Delayed French Trains - compensation/onward connections

 Poster: A snowHead

Thought I'd share the following in case it's of any use to anyone...

We took the train down to Serre Chevalier - left London on the Eurostar on the afternoon of Friday 10th, got the sleeper train from Paris Austerlitz with a planned arrival in Briançon at 9am on Saturday morning.

Annoyingly, we were over two hours delayed on the way down, which meant our full day of skiing became a half day.
The return sleeper train was similarly delayed - a whisker under the two hours - but rather more awkwardly this meant we'd missed our Eurostar connection.

But... we found a helpful SNCF lady at Paris Austerlitz who wrote something about the delay on our tickets, stamped them with the station's stamp, *and* phoned the Eurostar desk to tell them we were coming. Presented our signed/stamped tickets at the Eurostar desk, and they stuck us on the next Eurostar for free - no messing about, so all was good. Not sure if it would have been as straightforward without the signed acknowledgement of the delay, so worth bearing in mind.

While we were walking up the platform at Paris Austerlitz, there were announcements apologising for delay and promoting g30.sncf.com for compensation. The site didn't work perfectly - it kept saying something was wrong, but not identifying which field. A bit of trial and error showed that you need to enter the country exactly as 'Royaume-uni' for it to work (weirdly not a drop-down).

It even lets you put a UK bank account in (using your BIC/IBAN), so with any luck a significant lump of our train fare should arrive soon (50% for >2 hour delay).
