Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Hire in Samoens

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I am heading to Samoens with a small group in March. We are staying down in Samoens and I am looking to hire skis and boots for some of the group from Skiset (I get a discount through SCGB). It seems to make sense to not have to drag skis and boots on the bus and then up and down the gondola. They also seem to have a ski depot at the top of the Samoens gondola where we could leave them each night.

Also, looking at the map, the ski hire shop seems to be at the top of the Vercland gondola - is it possible to walk to this if you take the Grand Massif Express up to 1600?

I hope this makes sense and thanks in advance for any useful information.

Verchaix gondola arrives at highest point of 1600 and is right by the ski shops and cafés.

GM express arrives slightly lower on the plateu but you just walk across to the mini cabine that will lift you up to the top part, it's only about 50mtrs away approximately and also used for pedestrian access from different carpark levels.

@FionaG, you don't need the SCGB to get a skiset discount: there's nothing special avout the rates they offer. They're available through pretty much every Tom Dick and Online-Harry.
Much better to phone the shop directly, tell them the price you've been quoted online and you'll generally get a much more 'appreciative' level of service.

The cabine is no longer at the top of gme so to get to where the ski shops are at 1600 you need to walk up or get a bus, both a bit of a pain! There are a couple of shops at the bottom of the gme where you can hire your stuff and leave overnight,extreme glisses is one. Hope this helps!

welcome to snowHeads @2020rules snowHead

Taking that cabine out does seem a really odd thing to do. It was always getting well used when I was there last year and it's not much fun of a walk up to the ski hire shops from there. Does anyone know why it got removed?

@bigtuboflard,
It is odd and I'm amazed that the 1600 businesses are ok with it being decommissioned (part of the club med project changes).
It has been replaced with a little PINK COW bus which you catch from the road.
