Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

skimottaret, I think this is a brilliant idea - consolidate the stuff where we can easily find it. Also, I like the idea of a brief description, identifying rough level aimed at and point of the video as you have done.

really good idea, but have you seen the Warren Smith DVDs, they're crackers for technique, I have them all, just bought dvd 4 at the ski show last weekend - worth every penny

yeah, I think it is the best, actually it took a couple of years for Warren to bring it out because he had compiled the video and then had his car raided, the only footage he had left was uncompiled or edited and had to start again - shame huh. all them tackle the technique differently. I went on his week long course and I can't believe how many things there is to do with just carving.

A useful thread.

So much easier to take in than written instructions.

I have one of the Warren Smith DVDs - which is good.

I also recommend the 'In Deep' 'In Deeper' series. This is aimed at people who have a few years experience and want to eliminate bad habits or move off a plateau. The style is different too. The mouthy old git getting the advice has as much say as the poor little instructor. This will either entertain or infuriate. I enjoyed it. There is a similar series on snowboarding.

Clips used to feature on SkiTV. I am not sure if they are available elsewhere. These DVDs are on special offer at the moment in the SCGB online shop.

Have I missed something with Bend Ze Knees ? I do not pay much attention because written advice is not my thing. However, it seems an essential element of a ski forum - especially if there are recommendations for ski schools, instructions etc.

I assumed SZK moans were just a bit of mischief-making, or have there been controversial threads that I am totally oblivious to ?

A few drills being done well here. I've posted it on another thread before.

skimottaret, interpreted as follows
:10 he goes into an Ollie with his tips raised (a Nollie is with tails raised)
:20 not sure perhaps he refers to as Novegians (we use that term for pole planting with both pole tips on the same side)
:25 i would call that a hopping charleston
:29 Swedish turns

An instructor tried to get us to do them once!! I managed a few in a row and thought I was the dog's danglies - then got the tips tangled and did a perfect face plant. The ski class laughed Sad

I would SO love to be able to do sweeping carved turns touching my hand on the snow. Practice, practice practice.
