Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

A Squaw Valley Ski Resort employee died Tuesday morning.

Around 8:30 a.m., a member of the ski patrol was conducting avalanche control activities when they were killed. The resort didn’t go into detail about how it happened.

The employee’s name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin, according to a statement from the resort.

The incident is under investigation.

“The team at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows is deeply saddened by this tragic event and would like to express our deepest sympathies to the family and friends affected,” the resort said in a statement.

Squaw Valley will be closed for the day.

Oh poo-poo! It's only a couple of years since Alpine lost a guy in similar circumstances. Relatively low overnight total as well so likely to have been on a route they couldn't get to for a couple of days.

Edit : they've said it wasn't an avalanche.

No, it wasn't an avalanche, it was avalanche control duties... they were blowing them up.

After the family has been informed, I reckon they'll release more details

45 year record broke for most snowfall at Squaw and Mammoth. Sad news on the patroller at Squaw. I always make it a point to say thanks to them when I come across their paths. Have had some amazing days freeskiing with a few of them over the years too when they are not on duty.

More info on the patroller.

The incident, which occurred at the top of Gold Coast Ridge at Squaw Valley, does not appear to be avalanche related.
