Good places to eat on the mountain at Scheffau - any ideas? Haven't been to Ski Welt for 10 years so out of touch.

Head towards Ellmau from the top of Scheffau and the Rübezahl Alm is nice.

i went about 4 years ago, and i can remember the restaurants above sheffau and ellmau being incredibly smokey, if your a smoker its great, and if your a non smoker its horrible, hopefully things may have changed by now.

I REALLY wish Europe would follow with a smoking ban. As a non smoker it is horrible to wade through the smokers fog. May have to resort to outdoor dining to dilute the smoke

Rubezahl Alm very nice today, until sun went behind the mountain at 12.45 - then very cold. I would advise eating inside!

You end up having to take twice as many clothes too cos of the smoky smell. Yuck...

The Gasthof Hochschwendt half way down piste 88 was a really good restaurant, cheap and off the beaten track and from memory not smokey. Great Tiroler Grostl. Has the old fashioned kiln like areas to warm/dry your clothing. Plus the bonus of a back door way to return to Scheffau as long as the snow conditions permit.

My brother is there this week and the photos look fab. He said there's a lovely run to Hopfgarten so will have to check that out. Ooo it just gets even more exciting.....

A second vote for Gasthof Hochschwendt - a super restaurant - though I would describe it as on the left at the bottom of piste 88. Beware, the only way back up is via a T-bar, which some folk don't like, or a trek back down into Scheffau.
