Poster: A snowHead

Hello and thanks in advance.
We need to be at Geneva on a sturday night for a check in between 18:10 and 19:30, the journery planner says 1.5 hours, is that realistic on a saturday evening, ie will it be a prime time to come down the mountain?

Prime time is the morning - that time of day will be 1.5hours or less says Mr NN (transfer driver)

Unless it's sunny and everyone who came out for the day is heading back to the A40 when the lifts shut...
If you leave by 4:30pm it 'should' be ok...
If the D907 is stacked up: You can turn left at Tinanges and go through Chatillon (it will still probably queue up the hill because of the speed bump in Chatillon but will clear after that) Once out of Chatillon after a few bends, take the right hand turn for Marignier rather than going all the way down the hill into Cluses, then from Marignier follow signs for Bonneville and join the A40 at J17.

We (transfer drivers for morillon and samoens) use the Valley Verte road when it's likely to be busy and would leave Morzine about 3hours before your flight departure time, assuming you're dropping and going. You might need to add in some faff time if you're dropping off a hire car.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thread resurrection, but thought it better than start a new one.
At what time does the morning "rush hour" start to calm down?
I'm looking at 5pm flights from Geneva, so would presumably need to leave around 1.30pm (private transfer). Will things have calmed down by then?
Regards
BB

Yes, but obviously any serious snow on the day can change the dynamics.

March 11th or 18th could be a problem with the Geneva car show. I would allow at least an extra half hour on those days. otherwise whatever maapy says

I worked as a transfer driver for 4 winters and it always amused me when other drivers described the road between Taninges and Pont de Fillinges as the Vallée Verte road.
The Vallée Verte runs from the Pont de Fillinges to Mont Forchat, and does not go along the route through St Jeroire, Viuz en Sallaz, Mieussy etc.. ( as is commonly believed ).
You can use the Vallée Verte to get to Geneva from Morzine, but you would start by going through St Jean D' Aulps, and down the road towards Thonon (D902) until le Jotty ( Gorges de Pont de Diable), from which point you would take the D22 up through Vailly and Lullin and onto Habere-Poche, from here you can indeed take the Vallée Verte down to the Pont de Fillinges ( St André de Boege), although this would take a good 2 hours.
If you go through Les Gets, Taninges, Mieussy etc...you are following the Griffe, but you are not in the Valée Verte.
The confusion arises as when coming the other way the Vallée Verte is signposted at the exit, and it has passed from one generation of transfer driver to the next that this road is the valley verte.
You can also get from Morzine to Geneva in around 90 mins by going through St Jean on the D902, then picking up the Thonon ring road, and following the lake round to Geneva.
I would though agree with marcellus that the road along from Taninges to the Pont de Fillinges is a good way to go on a Saturday
