Totally gutted. Have a hairline fracture of scaphoid in a splint.
Off to see the Otho's Monday in fracture clinic.
Quite a competent skier. Skied for nearly 20 years, can manage my way down any pistes and some off piste.
Sensible skier. Not bothered about speed.
Questions: has anyone skiied with this injury?
Would I get insured or could they refuse?
I am in a splint until Monday but thinking of asking for a cast to totally stabilise bone. I can ski without poles.
Gutted as we have saved up all year!
We are going on 2 hols, le plagne and then st anton. Would kill me to have to sit it out!

Insurance probably won't cough up for a related injury but I probably would.

Gutted for you, know your pain, I broke a foot a week before a ski trip a few years ago and had to cancel.
Unfortunately certainly with any insurance Ive ever had (and would expect all insurance companies), they won't cover you. Not just for that injury, but for any other that happens either to you, or to anyone you hit..
Would effectively be uncovered if you go...

@heidi1, have you checked your insurances - I say plural since if you booked by credit card you may have cancellation insurance without realising it, plus travel insurance which you may already have taken out? And always worth talking to companies like fogg - specialist ski insurers.

Thanks guys, just ran a few quotes, I can get insured!
Feel better knowing I can get insured.
Need to now convince my ortho to put a full cast on to keep it more stable.
Here's hoping I can ski!

Injury was on Thursday,playing netball!
Ski trip a week tomorrow.
If I can't ski,will be gutted but will have to do other non skiing activities!
Can't cancel as my husband and daughter will be gutted.
Injury is not at all painful now just a total inconvenience!

My husband skied with a scaphoid fracture a few years ago with no serious lasting effects.
It was my fault of course as I had a new pair of ski boots so went to the local dry slope to try them out, he also came but fell and busted his hand. A few x rays and many breaks diagnosed but with a good cast and a very large mitten he skied fine 2 weeks later.
No off piste and anything too steep or big pole plants was off limits but it still worked out as a good week.
Father in law had an accident the following year and nearly missed a ski trip due to a fracture but again the giant mittens we had went over the cast and he managed fine.
Ask to get the cast moulded so you can grip a ski pole. Have seen this done as standard in a few resorts

Regarding fracture.
I have had this twice actually while skiing.
It is a very common injury
They put a splint on for a week as the name suggests "hairline' this gives time for the degree of fracture to comeout on a second xray.
Depending on the 2nd visit & xray result will determine if you are put in a lowerarm/palm cast for 4-6 weeks.
Ive had that also.
The tops of your fingers are free to move but would be difficult to grip a ski pole.
You can ski without poles.. No where in insurance does it say you must ski with poles.
In fact i ski nearly all the time on piste without poles.
