Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

UCPA- VAL THORENS OR SERRE CHEVALIER?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,

Trying to decide which UCPA to do this year. Already done Chamonix, Les Deux Alpes and Val D'isere with them.

This year it's between UCPA Val Thorens or UCPA Serre Chevalier. Has anyone here done either or both? Which one do you recommend? As a boarder I know Serre Chevalier is supposed to be great but I heard the apres ski isn't great. Is there really not much atmosphere or places to go out for a drink? I'll be traveling alone, so looking for a nice, vibrant, friendly environment.

Well I can only really comment on VT as we visited in Jan this year. But we're heading to SC this January. The VT centre is great, it's one of the largest and newest, perched 400m or so below the VT village. It was refurbished a few years back, as its newer it seems to have predominantly young staff, great location with private ski in / out pistes, the rooms are very modern and smart. It's a bus ride up to the village on a night but the ucpa bar is very lively as a result, stopping for apres in the village, skiing down to the ucpa for dinner then going to the bar were our best nights. Food good but maybe not quite as good as other UCPAs. Mathiu was the best ucpa instructor I've had. Oh and obviously the 3Vs is a huge area to ski. You only get a VT lift pass with one full 3V extension which you normally keep for a group day to courchavel and meribel. But the instructors know how to get the best out of it, you can buy top up days if you decide to explore more.

Hoping we enjoy SC as much as this years trip. Very Happy

I stayed in VT Jan 16, and SC Jan 15. Very little to choose between the centres - identical rooms, modern, friendly staff, lively apres. As regards apres in resort - there were a handful of places in SC, including one just across the piste from the centre which was jammed every night. There are many more in VT, but they're not as easily accessible from the centre - bus and/or a hike down the piste. I'd be hard pressed to choose between them.

As a solo traveller you'll meet drinking companions in the centre, rather than in the town, so you'll not be heading out on your own. If you're doing lessons or off piste you'll probably socialise with some of your group.

You'll enjoy whichever you choose.
