Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Superfeet custom carbon winter rounded bottom?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I really like the idea of a Superfeet footbed for my ski boot, but was wondering if the custom carbon winter with a rounded bottom is a problem? I know it's primarily designed for a ski boot, but most other footbeds (even the Superfeet red hot) has a flat base, which makes more sense... Or realistically there is no room for movement anyways with such a custom footbed?
Many thanks!

@szladob, the product works on the principles applied to carbon graphite orthotics... they can do this because of the depth of the heel cup and the rigidity of the evolite material used for the cap.... the principle is this....." when the distal medial edge of the device is on the ground the device cannot pronate further" which simply means when the front inner edge of the device (lets think about the evolite carbon cap as the "DEVICE" the top surface is there for comfort and to ensure it stays in one place in the ski boot) is on the ground the material structure prevents the foot from collapsing further

various other insole used in ski boots do the same: Sidas Comfort premium (and many of their newer models) Instaprint have a new insole which is the same.

the key here is the producer of the device, for "most" people the rounded bottom is going to be fine based on A) the principle above and B) the lack of room for it to move in a ski boot BUT if someone needs extra stability any of these products can be posted to neutral by a good fitter (some shops will do this some either won't or don't know how to)

hope that helps

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Presumably this orthotic requires careful pairing with boots to ensure sufficient volume?

Many thanks CEM - very helpful. So would you only do the posting to neutral if there is a problem (vs. routinely)? Many thanks again.

yes, that's correct, we build on a post for the really big guys and those with very unstable feet

betterinblack every orthotic needs careful paring and more importantly interfacing with the boots, there is no more volume in this than many other products out there, and whilst for the most opart it is not a product for race boots it can fit pretty well into most other types of ski boot

Many thanks! When you say not ideal for a race boot - do you mean proper race boot, or would this be a bad idea for an X-max 130 (punter race boot Smile )?

should go into an X Max just fine (assuming you are not shoe horning your foot in there in the first place), main reason for not using it in "proper" race boot is the thickness puts the boot over FIS limits for competition, which is not an issue in that boot
