Wow, i just use my regular black everyday socks - which are as light and thin as i can find. No problems with cold etc.
|
yep - not sure ski sock are very important for cold - afterall you have a big thick layer of insulating foam in your inner boot which will trump any sock!
main issue for me is whether the sock stays in place without wrinkling or sagging - normal socks don't seem to stay put for me.

Yep - I got massive blisters from using a mix of normal socks and tube socks my first year. Never again. (cheap) specialist ones have my vote.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@szladob, the blue and purple ones, yes, yellow not so much. |
Are those different lines, or just color variations as one would have thought? I guess is there an actual mark on it for the left and right?
Sorry for being thick...

Just realized, that Falke has an SK5 as well - is that something people use for all day skiing (e.g. instead of the SK4) or that is purely for racing?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@szladob, Shouldn't be a problem skiing all day in SK5s but a sock that thin is mainly used in very tight fitting race boots and custom liners, not really any advantage unless your liners already feel too tight. They seem to have slightly less cushioning all over than the SK4. I use SK4s in a foam injection liner fitted by a race tech (with those socks) and they feel great. I once accidentally bought a SK3 (may have been a 2) and after 1 hr skiing I had to give up, they put too much pressure on my feet.

SK5 for the first day and then SK4 the rest of the week once the boot liners have packed out a bit. Smartwool go an extra day if you are tight on packing space and you can put them on without your glasses/contacts but they shrink when washed

Just looked into the compression type socks, which sounds intriguing - would anybody know by any chance, how thick are the 'Falke SK energising wool compression socks'? Would they be equivalent to SK4 or SK2 in thickness/space taken up in a snug boot? Many thanks!

@szladob, I don't have experience of those but I use a Salomon compression sock for touring and it seems to be approx an SK3 in thickness, maybe a little tight for a snug liner.
