Frustratingly close amounts of snow at all resorts, but not enough.......

I am surprised to see that no-one has mentioned that Cairngorm is open today-Sunday. No tows open, funicular for skiers uplift only, no equipment hire, 5 pistes open back to the base station, reduced ticket price and limited availability (250).

Not too good I would imagine. The Lecht never opened the lifts and Cairngorm isn't open today (Sunday) due to the rise in temperature I believe.

@scotspikey, it was like this last year and I had a decent day at Glenshee in mid January so maybe.
I was hoping to get a day up in my week off over xmas - don't think that's going to happen. Oh well skis and board still in loft- Glentress with the bike instead!

Am I missing something, or are we in for a heuge dump of snow over Christmas and Hogmany?
Metcheck seems to be forecasting around -2 to + 3 celcius for Fort Bill for the next 10 days along with loads of precipitation.
That should do the trick, no?

@TheGeneralist I does look like a fair amount of snow forecast in the next week or so. Given the forecast strong winds though some slopes will probably get a lot of snow blown in and others will likely be stripped bare. I doubt they'll be much if any skiing until Jan, assuming we can keep the snow that does fall.

Cairngorm Report - Day 2 - Wed 28. 12.16:
Snow had been lost overnight after a rise in the freezing level, making Lurchers Gully less enticing from what we could see. The ski area was indeed open as forecast, with uplift restricted to the train and Ciste Tow only. Because of that, and as the wind was gusting strongly at car park level, we decided to skin up inbounds via the Gun Barrel and Cas.
The wind worsened as we climbed, with progress difficult in parts by we got half way up the Cas. Snow cover was still pretty good in the Cas - not sure why it couldn't have been opened as the tow track was all well covered. Still we had the place to ourselves, which was great.
We decided to not skin higher than the Cas as the wind got even stronger. Instead we skinned to the top of the Fiacaill Ridge Tow (with Mrs MA being blown over en route...) and had a lovely descent on soft snow back towards the car park. The run was sheltered from the wind too. A bit of walking and combat skiing to reach the bottom but another nice day out with good visibility.

Glencoe usually does well from a westerly. Less well from the north. They have some big drifts in the right places so worth keeping an eye open for this weekend. It will certainly be cold enough !

All mountain areas of Britain from Friday 13th January 2017
Widespread snow across the mountains through to the weekend and most terrain will be frozen, except for lower slopes in Wales. Temperatures will tend to rise from the west over the weekend. Substantially dry next week; summits may for periods be above freezing point, but latest evidence suggests under high pressure thaw will be slow. Highest risk of rain will be on the NW Highlands.

@Whitegold, don't be daft. It's still early season here. Glencoe didn't open at all last year till about now. We'll judge it in a few weeks time.

Yep, it's a little worrying. I know last year was a poor start but I can't think of the last time when there was virtually no skiing (just the odd day at Cairngorm and Lecht) before February.
Trouble with our weather systems is that we often get either cold and dry (now) or milder with rain.
Still fingers crossed for the next week or so...
