Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Glencoe was pretty dire today visibility was very poor as predicted by the weather reports and the place was surprisingly quiet tomorrow looks a better bet so we will be giving it another go. The snow in the main basin was the best on the mountain else where it is very thin with rocks every where still good fun though.

Awesome day at the Coe today. Clouded over for a couple of hours at lunch time, so loads of people went home. Then the sun came out and there were no queues! Un pisted, raw snow, with rocks lurking, but pure unadulterated dirty fun! Buzzing by the time I came off the hill. Depsaratley need another dump, or the next mild/rain spell will kill the season. 'Mon the snow!

Had a good day up at Nevis Range last week. Snow was great at the top of the mountain, though it's put me off T-bars for life. Mid to lower was quite poor with muddy / grassy patches throughout and plenty of rocks and boulders to avoid.

Had quite a few falls at Nevis as the slopes are a bit trickier to get around than those at Glencoe. Smashed into the fence when trying to get across to the T-bar. Took quite a while to break free! Need to work on my technique.

Looks like the season might be done and it's back to Snowfactor for the rest of the year. rolling eyes

Had a thoroughly wet and miserable few hours at the Nevis range today. Wasn't in the area for skiing, but seeing as I was there I had to slide. I was drenched by the end. Horrible. But I'm still glad I did it.

Main basin, rannoch glades, happy valley and spring run were all skiable with good spring snow yesterday. It did rain for an hour around lunch but cleared up about 1:30pm. Really quite an enjoyable weekend though it does need more snow.

Next 3 days are warm but there looks to be a bit of a cool down from Friday so it's not over yet.

Great day yesterday at Glencoe although barring an unforeseen dump it must be just about over. You could ski from the top, through the Haggis Trap down to the Cliffhanger chair. There was the odd rock of course but the quality of the snow was excellent.
If how I knew how to upload pictures and vids off my phone I would do. [/img]

Too early to say that Fifespud - in one recent year Glencoe (& the other areas) had no snow or lifts spinning at all in March - but then had a lot of snow and were up and running in April.

We're currently en-route - Nevis Range tomorrow Very Happy

Nipped up to Glencoe this weekend. Beautiful morning. Crystal clear, frosty and complete calm. Sat in the cafe drinking coffee and eating a breakfast bap. Can't wait to get on the hill.

Is it worth while going fat ski or piste skis?

I'll be in Yellow Norrona trousers and probably a yellow-ish TNF thermobobble jacket, Sweet protection helmet with SH sticker. I don't like stickers on my helmet but admin slapped one on.

If anyone wants to meet up for pie and beans at the plateau shack at 12.30pm say hello.

Glencoe has the best of it - Glenshee and Cairngorm have nowt.

Crap season in Scotland
snow report

Great day today at Glencoe:
- Fresh, soft snow at altitude.
- Conditions pretty decent.
- Fresh tracks to be had.
- Sunny spells; the odd snow flurry; hardly any wind.
- Skis on at top of The Wall tow - skinned up from there, with one scrambly/rocky bit at the top of the Haggis Trap.
- Main Basin great; traverse to Spring Run complete; Spring Run do-able top to bottom with no walking - but a couple of sketchy pick-your-way-through bits; top of Happy Valley good fun then had to bear right into Main Basin as it got too rocky.

Photos to follow....

Crap season in Scotland
Yes, sadly - but we've managed to make the best of it and have had decent lift-served days on good snow at Cairngorm and Nevis; plus a few enjoyable ski touring trips to Glencoe, Cairngorm and Glenshee. Seven or eight days in total vs our usual 12 or 15. Ski touring kit has definitely saved the day though.

To put things into perspective, snow cover at Glencoe at the moment is more like it would be in late May/early June in a normal season - there just hasn't been the depth this winter...

Glencoe was good fun for a few May Day turns yesterday:
- Skis on for skinning up just behind the top of the Wall Tbar.
- Off again to scramble up the top of the Haggis Trap.
- Main Basin snow pretty nice - soft and spring-like.
- A couple of thin/narrow bits on the run - became broken by late afternoon.
- Skiable to just about back to the top of the Wall tow.
- That will be that for this season for us.
- Pics to follow....
