Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Snowing steadily in Les Menuire since early this morning. High winds and very poor visibility above middle lifts. Incredible contrast to yesterday's blue skies and great Piste conditions.

Still tipping down snow in Val Thorens, non stop since some time last night, decent accumulations now. Quiet on the pistes today but good skiing to be had in the more sheltered areas, off Boismint lift in particular was very good.

VT is often mobbed, it's an incredibly popular resort. And it's cheaper than the other valleys for lunch

That's what I've always thought since I started going to the 3Vs in the early 90s but I've noticed the last few years that prices have definitely gone up in VT and I would say the best value food and drink are in Les Menuires, Mottaret or La Tania, VT deffo not cheap anymore

Snow flurries all day. Steady snow now for the last hour to 5pm. Knee deep powder in Meribel off piste this morning.

Between 1 and 2 ft of powder off piste this morning, especially the more north facing runs which seem to have accumulated a lot. Snowing this morning in VT until about 11, then was sunny for a few hours. Links were closed first thing but opened up before lunch. Headed over towards Courcheval around 2 where it was cloudy and snowing, grand couloir was in fantastic condition though seemed to have accumulated a lot of snow over the last 24 hours. Conditions took a turn for the worse around 3pm though, wind really picked up and several lifts were closed, was very stressful trying to make it back to VT in time! Snowing very heavily since about 4pm so should be a good morning tomorrow!

@jonathancarty, You're right Les Menuires is cheaper nowadays. VT is investing heavily in their renovation of the buildings in the resort and are trying to attract more 5* hotels and apartments. They are looking towards different markets as well as trying to keep their existing ones.

Lots of new, much needed, snow all over the 3V's. The snow line keeps rising and falling as does the wind! We had thunder snow this morning.

Traveling on your own or in a group? In a large group, a private transfer might work out the best value. On your own or in a small group, use Altibus (or a mixture of train to Moutiers/altibus) on the way out (85 EUR one way per person) and then something like Ben Bus on the way back (only runs on weekends I think but is about 50 EUR one way per person).

@MidoGrey, we always just book a hire car. For us its the best combination of fast transfer/reasonable budget. You could probably get a hire car for 1/4 of the price of your private xfer. Shared transfers work ok for some people but they drive me nuts with all the waiting and stopping at every hole in the hedge. They aren't usually that much cheaper than a hire car if indeed they are cheaper at all.

+ 1 They have a set timetable for shared transfers on the Van Rouge service as well as offering empty transfer legs at a decent price.
I've used them a few times this season and usually paid €65 each way.

Snowed all night in Le Praz (1300). Forecast is for it to continue into Tuesday. Looking forward to some fun in the trees today, since visibility up top isn't going to be good. Hoping for no start delays as the pisteurs make the place safe.

About 30cm or so on the ground in Meribel village. Still snowing moderately. There is currently very little wind but I would assume it has been blowing up top. Visit at village height is good considering the weather. Going to be a great morning.

I'm in the village too, about a foot overnight. Same forecasted again for tonight, and lower winds tomorrow. Should be a great week

Well, that was a laugh! Beautiful powder this morning everywhere. The snow on the ground turned heavy at lunch time. The bubbles closed at lunch time due to high wind on the tops, leaving just the drag lifts. Even those stopped at about three pm. It's now four thirty, and it's absolutely tipping it down with snow, even down to Le Praz (1300m). Avi risk is 4 all over the mountain, so off-piste is not really on the cards, but who cares when there's 18 inches of new on all of the pistes. The Stade piste in Courchevel has been empty all day so our group has been using that. Tomorrow may be interesting as the forecast is for snow all day. We may go over to 1650 and play off the side of Chaplettes if the chair is open...

Yeah Meribel has been similar, great skiing this morning. Huge amounts of powder on the pistes but a lot of the top lifts/pistes closed all day due to high winds. And then at about 2.30pm all the lifts closed ending the days skiing.

In les Menuires. Snowed since about 1pm yesterday. What was brown yesterday morning is now white. Couldnt see a thing mist of the day. The sun gave us one run about 1.30pm and it was magnificent. At about 3.30 sitting on a chair and saw the wind blow the Roc 1 gondola to about 45 degrees, scary. Our chair stopped and swing quite a bit. Since then snow, huge hail stones and wind. Can't see far. Brilliant day snowHead

Yes. First time we've ever seen every lift closed in the Meribel valley.

At 2.30 pm Stade draglift , in Mottaret, was the only lift open in the valley (& despite that still only had a 7 minute queue). Someone in that queue told us he'd just seen 4 trees blown onto an open piste in Meribel! Shocked

Conditions were great, despite the wind & fog, but then they closed Stade. To add insult to injury the gondola to Brides Les Bains was then closed. Luckily they put on free buses down the valley but we had a tortuous journey down, standing in ski boots in the aisle of a packed bus as the driver took the numerous hairpins a bit too quickly...

Fingers crossed for tomorrow. Powder is calling, as it's still p155ing down in Brides. wink

good news on latania.co.uk for anyone out today:

We’ve had confirmation from S3V lift company that all pistes marked “Peuf” on the piste map will not be groomed overnight (imagine them ruining a metre of fresh powder by flattening it with a piste basher!).

Obviously all green runs and just about all blues are bashed every night and those guys do a fantastic job.

Some of the pistes included are:
Chanrossa
Roches Grises
M
Combe des Pylons
Jockeys
Jean Pachod

(Don’t tell anyone!)
