Everyones favourite skidroid, Lindsey Vonn v2.0, has been extolling the virtues of segregation of skiers and snowboarders on a radio show in the US. Vonn (uptime - 384 months), who is capable of simulating a range of powerful human emotions, said "Snowboarders are difficult because you guys camp out. And you like, adjust your bindings and you're in the middle of the trail, and like, you know, your peripheral vision is terrible. So it's difficult for us to manoeuvre and know what's going on."
Vonn went on to add the modifier to the statement "Maybe"... and probably "and like" a few more times.
Perhaps Vonn should contact Elon Musk or Google, and see if they can install better collision avoidance firmware, or just REM out a few lines in her out-of-date STEREOTYPES.DAT file.

Its futile to argue against her point of view, she is entitled to it and many skiers might tend to agree, maybe stopping short of segregation.

Oh this could run and run and run. If we don't put a stop to it NOW. Let mine be the very last word on the subject.
No need to agree or comment. Silence would say it all!

Mancuso called her on it on Twitter - and the "Thats not what I said. Well, not what I meant - I misspoke. Y'all need to calm down" shtick is in play now.

When arguably the biggest name in the sport trots out played out old crap like that, then yes, it think it warrants comment.

Not this one. Bloody stupid thing to say (if that's what she meant to say).

I kind of think she was lead into it by the interviewer. Vonnbot is easily lead so it seems.

@Richard_Sideways, ...personally I think it's fine to hoon down every piste at warp speed without thinking that there might be an unexpected hazard on the snow. That's the point of skiing isn't it? A racing mentality to all descents, combined with clearing the way, all the time is exactly what we need to enhance safety, surely. She must be right about boarders, and all other stationary objects which weren't there on my last descent - small children, a fallen mother, that instructor patiently explaining technique to a beginner ... All should be segregated in their own zones.
Sometimes racing celebs display another stereotype. Big thighs. Tiny brain.

@valais2, all very true. She did make it clear that thinking is not good while racing (if you watch the complete interview, which I admit I did).

You know it makes sense.

they do love to sit in the middle of pistes and just look down though, i often wonder that they are thinking, they look so content

She's got a new book to promote. Snowboarders weren't going to buy it anyway, but plenty of skiiers who are potential customers are now hearing her name a lot on the interwebs and airways. Her self-publicism chip is functioning perfectly well, thank you very much.

Modern skiing owes snowboarding a huge debt. Anyone who knows anything about snowsports knows that much.

@Steilhang, ...you have considerable patience. After your post I decided to watch the interview. I have just paused it to decide whether it may be more interesting this evening to bang my head against the wall for 20 minutes, stick forks in my legs, or continue to watch Lindsey Vonn displaying the charisma of the living dead. She is an unbelievable athlete, and it is extraordinary that she made a comeback after extreme injury. The latter shows huge dedication. She is great on the snow. Terrible in the studio.

@valais2, thank you. You must understand that I was lyi ng in bed suffering from severe man flu and really had nothing better to do. In october watching the grass grow is boring and I didn't have any wet paint to watch drying.

Only in the same way as skiers pull up just on the crown of a roll over to inspect their belly button fluff.

I am surprised she didn't comment on those pesky boarders scraping the snow from the piste. They ruin it for us all. Bloody tray monkeys.
