Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

This looks like fun, although not something I'd try except on a completely deserted piste at risk of looking like a pillock.

Conditions were looking nice in Tignes when they filmed that!

Not sure what it adds, other than looking like a bit of a plum. From the video it doesn't look like it provides much lift at all

A speedwing (scaled-down paraglider used with skis) might typically be 15 square metres. This is maybe 1 or 1.5 square metres. You aren't going to commit aviation with it.

That, unless i'm very much mistaken, is what happens if you take a shaky premise, work on it for 4 years and come up with a cape.

As far as I can see its main purposes are to reduce edge grip when you need it most, and slow you down when you want to go fast rolling eyes

Maybe it is a solution for crowded pistes, because you cannot carve hard or reach excessive speeds Toofy Grin

Looks about as effective as unzipping your coat, holding the hem and (this is the effective bit) shouting WHEEEE!.

I did see a guy in an inflatable summo suit a few years ago who seemed to be getting lift from it. Going quick, seemed to flatten the front and made him look more flying squirrel than summo. He was jumping long distances over supprisingly small rollers on a blue piste.

Wasn't there something similar, but without the wing sectio, in the seventies -as in a flap of material from arm to about thigh level attached to form a sort of human flying squirel type suit.

Couldn't be that or I'd be better at it than he was... Doubt it was helium either; By that theory hot air would also work and apparently I'm full of that as well.

Nobody will use this for real IMO Smile.

My reasons:
- it looks funny (in bad sense)
- it can slow you down and speed you up when you don't expect
- it looks funny (in bad sense)
- brings unwanted instability
- what's the point?

I say more power to them. Particularly if they make a nice spangly one, then FINALLY we may see the return of Ski Ballet.

Back in the day, circa 1970, we used to do this the other way round. We unzipped our jackets, held them open, and the ever present wind would blow us back up the Traverse at Cairngorm.

In the Metro today = GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! Visitors to Val Thorens can TRY-B-4-U-BUY their very own ski cape! For a mere £189 you get 6 mornings to try and spread your wings (geddit!) You can go to the Ski-Cool website for more info... when they fix it, because its broken at the moment... Probably down under the weight of skiers looking for info!

Flashbacks to doing up the hood of my 1980's snorkel Parker, taking my arms out the sleeves and running around shouting "my wings are like a shield of steel!" I'm in.
