Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I'm thinking of doing a short trip to Zermatt 20-24th December. What aare the conditions generally like then?

So difficult to say every year is different. But, given that there is a glacier and access to very high skiing it is probably one of the safer places to go.

@mk28, skied Zermatt for short break between Xmas and New Year last year when conditions were pretty dire across Europe. Some good skiing to be had though particularly on glacier area with t bars. Some runs were very icy and many crowded but you have something like the world's 6th highest lift on the Matterhorn so utterly snowsure hence the crowds when conditions bad elsewhere. You will have a great time wink

Fine as far as I can recall when I went there around Xmas. Runs to the resort could/can be a bit interesting at either end of the season!

Skied there for a couple of days at the end of Nov for the last 7 years or so. We have alway managed to get down at least one side of the Cervinia runs, sometimes both to mid station. Over in Zermatt, always completely open on the glacier above Trockener Steg, and more than 50% of time the nice red down to Furgg is open. Things really get going after about 6th December, and the one time we hit the slopes then we could get up to the Gornergrat area. At that time of year, there are piste bashers all over prepping pistes. So, I'd say go for it as I reckon by the week before Christmas it'll be pretty sorted.
We are looking at a cheeky few days there ourselves in mid December this year, as stepson is going to be working for Summit ski school this season, so have "have" to visit. rolling eyes Madeye-Smiley
