Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski hire - swapping skis

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello fellow Snowheads!

I was just wondering if anybody had any views on paying extra to swap skis during the rental period (eg. to suit conditions on the day)? In the past I've tended to just 'get by' with the skis I have been given (partly due to my excitement to get into the fresh powder!) but I'm sure on the odd occasion where I have wanted to swap them I've done so with no problem having not paid the premium.

Many thanks!

@wns198, I haven't rented for years, but rental skis normally fall into 3-4 groups in terms of daily/weekly cost. Ranging from last years general purpose skis, up to the current year latest model premium piste and powder skis.

If you rented for the higher groups of skis, often Gold or Platinum, you could swap as often as you liked, for nothing extra. But if you want to swap from a basic ski to a fat powder ski, you would have to pay the difference between the bands. It would also depend on how busy they were and time of season, as there will of course be competition for fat skis on a powder day.

Very much depends on the shop's own policy. Some will, some won't charge extra. If booking a more expensive set, check at the time if you can swop. Most likely you will be charged if hiring a 'cheap' set and wanting to upgrade to a better set.

@wns198, it is exactly as PowderAdict and Old Man Of Lech stated above. If you rent skis in the highest quality category, you can swap them for any other skis (if available) as many times as you like, without being charged extra. If the skis you want are in a higher category than those you have rented, you might be charged extra.

That's really helpful all - great advice and good to know. Think I'll go with some more expensive ones!

Thank you very much! Very Happy

Rented for the first time in Sweden last year and have to say it was great! We went for the superior skis and I tried 3 different pairs and a board for a few days for no extra charge.

Now my skis are a few years old I'm just going to rent on both trips this coming season. Renting has also given me more of an idea what i would go for if/when I decide to get a new pair (something lighter) Smile
