In Mc Donald's Annecy. Left early roads out were awful, bad down to Bourg. Conditions were amazing but light was awful most of the day we had. Tomorrow should be epic. Safe travels out, back in March.

Just driven from Geneva to Bourg. It was blizzard conditions all the way & is currently snowing heavily in Bourg with roads covered. Ghastly drive - but skiing should be great!

Sorry! No idea why this posted three times. Large glass of wine now we are safely here could be the answer!

Looks as if it is still snowing up the mountain - the canopy outside Melis Snack, which doesn't go up until 7am, is covered again... you boys and girls are in for a TREAT!

Not at all - just what is needed - honest reporting of what the conditions are. Glad you got out in time - shame you had to though. Not long until March

UPDATE! Photos from yesterday now posted. Enjoy!
The winter is back and we have powder everywhere. If you do not mind hurting your skis you can even get down to Bourg, JUST!
Had a great day making fresh tracks in various places around the La Plagne side of the Paradiski area yesterday. Almost the perfect day until I caught my binding breaks together whilst skiing bumps on the piste (should have known better on fat skis) when heading for home and fell heavy on my shoulder. How unlucky can you be after getting fresh tracks all day.
A few days rest needed and then back on the snow again just in time for the next dump I hope.
Photos from yesterday to follow shortly in the Jan 2017 Album on my Les Arcs Winter facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pg/LesArcsWinter/photos/
If you can get out right away you are in for a treat. The powder was well above our knees and even deeper in places. The pistes everywhere are now in great condition and all those annoying little stones seem to have gone, at least for now. The Off Piste is fun, but mind the rocks just under the surface so take care!
If it stays cold this should finally be the start of a good winter. Look forward to seeing some of you next week!
If you need to rent Skis or Snowboards check out Polaire Star Ski Shop at the bottom of the Funicular in Bourg. They have some great gear for the fresh snow we now have. http://www.polairestar.com/

Got taken out by a rather unpleasant English chap in 1800 today, couldn't control his speed on Froid Fontaine and then sped off when I came too..!! Wind is sweeping a lot of the snow away on piste so be careful out there...even with bruises it's better than being at work! ( he was a boarder but I am
biased😳😳)

Anyone out in Vallandry area: would be grateful for advice on piste conditions. See some pistes have been showing as 'partiale' until just recently. Will be out soon and wondering whether to bring the old skis, older skis - or planks off the shed ! See Snowcrazy's reference to "If you do not mind hurting your skis " & realise this refers to BSM - but 'fraid I do!

I arrive in Les Arcs 1600 on Saturday and am planning to use my new skis, but based on recent updates, the pistes above 1550 seem to be in good nick....otherwise the newbies are staying in the bag!!!@kapt,

Would that be everything above 1550m across Paradiski - or did you mean 1950 - ie. Arc 2000 bowl?

I think I meant across Paradiski, but again this is based on webcams and the input of the noble fellow SHs above!
According to the skiclub rep, Upper Les Arcs was skiing well and temperatures have remained sub-zero so fingers crossed!

You don't want to be too precious about new kit. At the end of the day you bought it to be used and to some extent abused. If you ski off piste even a little bit there is always the chance you find a rock hidden under a thin layer of snow. It is the nature of the beast. Clearly if you have multiple quivers with you it makes sense to choose which ones accordingly.

+1. They are tools, not jewels.
You can miss out on a lot of awesome turns by being a bit too precious about your skis.

mmmm have to agree - definitely tools. BUT - in my book a workman not only doesn't blame his tools, he looks after them. I have always been brought up to be careful and look after my 'things'. I worked hard for what I earned, spent (hopefully) wisely & take great care with what I purchase. Personally I prefer to tune & wax my own ski equipment and take pride in the condition in which they are kept. Hopefully it provides me with not only good performance, but also safety. I'm not saying don't trust anyone else with your 'tools', but I guess, like many, I spend a fair time looking after them (which is part of the pleasure of the pastime) and I prefer to know exactly how they have been looked after. This all adds up to wanting to keep them in good shape and not get them unnecessarily damaged.
I refute utterly the accusation that this could be seen as being 'precious'. I do not wish to offend anyone - I am sure everyone has different priorities. Some prefer to spend all their time actually on the slope and perhaps are less concerned about what happens to equipment, some take a more holistic view of the sport (ie. it encompasses the technical aspect of care for the equipment as well - which includes taking care in how it is used) I fully accept some will find it difficult to understand the 'careful' approach, but please do not label us 'careful' ones with the disparaging term 'precious'.

@kapt, agree, I think keeping your skis in good nick (ether yourself or with a shop service) is a good thing. But you shouldn't avoid skiing on them in less than perfect conditions in case they get a bit damaged.

Hiya. I was directed here for LA-specific posts (apologies not snow report related). I'm here for the rest of the season, I hope, and was hoping to meet up with others for some apres. (My skiing isn't good enough for actual skiing meet ups yet, but I'm working on it). I'm loving this place, but don't speak French! Would love to be included in a bit of socialising in English, if anyone is keen. Drop a line if you fancy it. I'm a woman, 44 (just to give you a sense of who I am). I'm on a bit of a midlife ski adventure, I guess!
