Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

best alps summer ski area?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
hello all

just wondering what peoples' opinions were on what was the best summer ski area in the alps? skied zermatt 3 years ago and it was good. wouldn't plan a whole summer holiday around it but if there are any better areas then i may redirect the general direction towards them. Did a search on google and forums and there doesn't seem to be discussion on this. Many are mentioned but not compared. Any thoughts/feedback most welcome.

Tks

Welcome to snowHeads snowHead

Tignes and Hintertux both seem to be very popular.
If you're on a bit of a road trip, you could do Tignes and then pop through the Petit St Bernard into Aosta to come at the glacier over Zermatt from the Cervinia side.

Zermatt, Hintertux, Stubai, Tignes, Saas Fee, Kaprun, Dachstein, Les 2 Alpes, Stryn and Cervinia are the "big 10" Summer ski resorts in Europe.

Hintertux is the steepest.
Zermatt, Hintertux and Stubai are the biggest.
Les 2 Alpes is the freestylest.
Zermatt and Saas Fee are the prettiest.
Zermatt is the snowsurest.

Alternatively, head south, to Chile, Argentina or New Zealand.

Saas Fee, Zermatt and Hintertux are my personal faves. Depends what you are after - large ski area or an epic summer park?

Tux Tux Hintertux. @Kj82, it's got the best uplift, best facilities at the new Tuxerfernerhaus and enough piste to bash around on. They maintain the snow really well too.

Yes but it was 20 years ago. It's good, not as good as Tux and a bit harder to get to. No hotels at the base area either so stay in Flattach.

The French team are training on the glacier here atm. Outside my building last night were parked Fischer, Salomon and Head WC service vans so top top racers rate it. I believe it's actually Europe's biggest skiable glacier.
