Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@uktrailmonster, not all pairs. I had some decent ski trousers that weren't reinforced and didn't cut up...apart from where I fell on my back bottom trying to slide on a box Very Happy

Well the whole thing must have been reinforced then, otherwise they just get cut to ribbons. I made the mistake once of buying a pair of Goretex snowboard salopettes which didn't have the usual reinforcement panels at the bottom and they definitely got chopped up quite badly after a few weeks use. They were typical 3-layer Goretex fabric. Never had that issue with normal ski pants, but mine all have reinforcement panels in that area. My best salopettes are Sweet Protection Goretex and they are super tough. No wear or tear after 12 full weeks use.

Personally I find the the whole boot fitting thing bonkers. It shouldn't be that hard for a recreational skier buying consumer boots. Racers and Instructors trying to get the last bit of performance fair enough, but my wife ? It really shouldn't be that hard.

I don't think it is. Most recreational skiers do what you say. Just like street shoes but what Pam says is true, there is a danger of getting boots that are too big because they feel comfy strolling around the shop. More so when you are inexperienced.

I think a lot of problems people have with equipment, especially boots, are down to lack of skill and lack of fitness.

But yes, Snowheads does have an extraordinary amount of people with problem feet.

That said, a week's ski holiday is very expensive, a pair of ski boots is expensive, going to spend a couple of hours with a boot fitter for 100 quid is peanuts especially if you are a beginner but it is best to start off with a pair of boots that fit before doing lots of fettling making a pair of boots that don't fit, fit.
