Ah bummer! I know the feeling. 
I've used airbnb for the first time on finding accommodation for this trip, worked out pretty well especially with me only requiring 6 nights.
Might be worth a look/enquiry with it being a bit more informal and flexible than usual package stuff? Shy kids get no sweets!

have you used homeaway before? we wouldnt really meet many other people if we stayed in a airbnb kind of place?

@mojitogirl, I changed my accommodation at the last minute and used homeaway to find somewhere new. There's a few studio apartments available. I always use homeaway for my holidays so I'm very happy with the site and the users there.
