Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi All,

I see there's already some talk of Christmas / New Year trips, I've always promised myself every year that I'll be away over the festive period and so far I've never managed it!. So - whats the advice for where's best to go?

Cheers
Adam

Adam Holt, It's great. Solves all sorts of relations and presents problems and what could be finer than skiing in the sun on Xmas Day? Did 9 reds last year.

What sort of skiing are you looking for?

Hi Chris - a good all round mix really. The other half is still learning, so good wide blue cruisers would be ideal. I'm happy enough with anything really - will adapt to whats available - but at that time of year I'd be getting the legs back, so high speed carvy blues/reds and a smattering of nice blacks would suit fine!

Prefer some resort charm.....

Don't ask for much snowHead

Adam Holt, I think Chamonix might be an option. You can send her up to Le Tour, and you can ski with Tom down the Aguile.
I think there's an Irish Bar in Cham, but I can't remember. Can you??? snowHead

We've been to Austria for Xmass a couple of times, Lech and Stuben. I'd recommend Austrian hotels for Xmass based on our experience.

Why not try Saas Fee - lots of resort charm, lots of cruisey runs and a smattering of more challenging stuff.

We were in Saas Fee at New Year and Val Thorens at Easter. I prefer the ski-ing in Val Thorens (bigger range of runs, better lift system), but Saas Fee has a nicer village, a bigger range of non-ski-ing things to do, better apres-ski and the whole village letting off fireworks at random on New Years Eve!

Adam Holt, Xmas and New Year are 2 different things. For early snow we always do well and Xmas is great, but New Year should be avoided unless you want to party with Italians in the street. Lots of fireworks, ESF do a spectacular "Descent à Flambeau" with free (yes FREE) vin chaud afterwards. Charm is a variable commodity, but I think for a huge resort we manage quite well if you stay away from the British places.

Of course I'm biased Toofy Grin

easiski - I had probably the best New Year (of those spent skiing) in LDA. I think it was more to do with the the group, than using the resort facilities.... but it has gone down in the history books!!

Adam Holt, you want guaranteed early snow (I presume), somewhere good for learning, fun zippy runs for you and resort charm....
Only place I know with all those is Obergurgl.

Jonpim - I was kind of hoping someone would say that. I've heard good things about Obergurgl .... I think I'll investigate it now! Cheers.

Adam Holt, I learnt to ski in Obergurgl, been there 4 times in all, but only know it at February or Easter. Friends have been there twice for Christmass and report it as wonderful.

New Year in Obergurgl (1984 I think) was also wonderful.
