Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Dolomites - where to go for apres-ski?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Pretty self explanatory but some context: I need to put together a ski weekend for 6 people, but everyone has its own preferences: GF is in love with Austrian way of skiing, and that includes mulled wine and apres-ski. Her dream weekend would be St Anton/Moserwörth. Some others are close to beginners and unique scenery and good food is more important than extended skiing: they've seen and loved Innsbruck and the Zillertal but want the Dolomites now. And me in the middle who don't want to drive more than 2 hours, ideally one, from the airport (more likely venice than innsbruck given flight times/prices). Is there anywhere that could combine everyone's requirements?

Go to Selva.

I'm sure you can drive it in under a couple of hours from Innsbruck. The alternative is to get the train from Innsbruck to Ponte Gardena changing at Brennero and then the local bus up the hill.

The skiing is excellent and the food is cheap and superb. For bevying, its not St Anton but there's some decent pubs with some live music.

Selva can be a bit quiet in Dec and Jan, other than that it's probably as good as you'll get in the Dollies.

Young Brits don't really do Selva (thankfully wink ) and they tend to drive the rowdier après in many resorts.

Hmm. Forget Cortina for apres. It's about 90 mins from Venice but unless cigars and brandy are your thing for post ski relaxation then give it a wide berth. In the predominantly German/ Ladin speaking areas of the Dolomites both the Groednertal (val Gardena) and Corvara have pretty good Apres but if you are used to St Anton/ Ischgl/ Saalbach etc you'll be a bit disappointed. Having said that the Luiskeller in Wolkenstein (Selva) can be lively and also the Murin in Corvara, especially on Saturday Very Happy These resorts are 90 mins plus from Innsbruck and around 3 hours from Venice.

The edelweiss above colfosco somewhat surprisingly does a passable impression of Austrian après.
Starts early - check
Good beer supply - check
Classic Austrian style cheesy tunes - Das rote Pferd, Anton aus Tirol etc - check
Dancing on tables - check
Ski home in the dark - check

However there aren't any really other options, so if you don't like it then you are a bit stuffed..
