Hi,
I need advice on the snow train please. Can I book now or do I need to wait until Eurostar release their their trains 90 days before departure?
Looking at Alpe D'huez or maybe Tignes as skiing at Easter but do t want a long transfer. Any catered chalets anyone knows and recommends for 9 people too.
Many thanks

Was all booking up fast when we booked on opening day, particularly if you were after popular dates like Easter. Hope you haven't missed the boat... train...

The Saturday day Easter SkiTrain 28 March - 2 April is ridiculously expensive at £329 return - and only a few tickets left at that price.
The weeks earlier and later are cheaper, as are the night trains.
Look at booking London-Paris and Paris-Alps separately for far cheaper prices if stuck with the 28 March - 2 April timings.

You could try a package with skiworld or crystal. It's usually not a big supplement for the snow train.

Don't think the ski train gets you down to Alp D'huez? I maybe wrong. Great for Tignes though. Even better for La Plagne, and easier again for Les Arcs. It's good for 3 valleys also. Basically anything in the Tarrentaise.

Not sure if it's got the information that specifically answers your questions, but I do find the "The Man in Seat 61" website massively helpful when booking trains on the Continent (inc. to Italy skiing last year).

You know it makes sense.

A friend is an investor in www.loco2.com which has a comprehensive booking engine (as powers Deutschebahn, etc.) I believe that they actually provide the booking service for seat61.
Captaine Train is SNCF's own rather poor site ... Loco2 is much better.
I usually book trains through Swissrail www.sbb.ch because certain European idiosyncracies work better for me from there.

@under a new name, I too have found the Swissrail site the best source of reliable train times/routes!

under a new name and CaravanSkier, I've just had a go with Swissrail, looking at trains from Paris to Aime-la-Plagne later this month:
I must say the results are impressive (never used them before).
Quick and informative.
But: doesn't seem able to offer a through booking where a change is involved and only one leg is first class and the other second class.
Or am i just being a bit stupid?

@Jonpim, I went from Geneva to Bourg St Maurice (all 1st class though) and had to change trains at Chambery, it let me do that ok.

@Jonpim, good point. I've never tried to do a multi class booking other than where there was no first class on some legs. Try that if you haven't? Alternatively, I think if you book 2nd, if there's space you can upgrade to 1st as required for the difference on board or at the station.
Just to elaborate on the idiosyncracy I was thinking of, I take the train to Milan quite frequently. I discovered (luckily in my favour) when I wanted to change my reservation that had I booked through Trenitalia the ticket would a reservation for a specific train (which I had missed) meaning cost and queuing, etc. whereas Swiss bought tickets (same price, better website) were valid on any train, any of a set of connections and valid for 30 days... - which is great.
