It was a day of closed lifts all over the place, not just bergerie, both la Rossa and rhe Roche De Mio bubble were both stopped for over half an hour. I pity the poor people in the bubble. We had a lucky escape, just three from the front when it stopped. Made it over to Champagny, eventually, and a lot of fun was had in spring conditions before lunch in one of my favourite restaurants on the mountain, les Borselliers. Played under the Verdons Sud, including a rather challenging black bump run, after lunch before making our way home. A great day had by all.

They say that the piste was icy, so the accident must have happened just before the sun got onto that area.
Around noon, conditions were perfect around BP & Bellecote
Just shows that, regardless of the steepness, if you hit something you'll be in trouble.
The Mail choosing to use the English translation of "Bear" gives a slightly misleading impression of the type of piste, as does their use of a picture showing people carrying their skis up an off piste section

Early iciness was the reason that we set off a bit later today and headed straight for the sun field over Arpette and down onto Mont Blanc.
I did some runs on Mont Blanc and Dos Rond whilst the rest of my group went on down through the trees.
Conditions on the top of the Mont Blanc run (from the top of the Bijolin lift down to the bottom of the Dos Rond lift) were excellent.
The drop back down to get the Salla chair was in the best Nick that I've skied it.
After lunch I did some runs around Villages, Centre and Soleil.
The Dou Du Praz drag means that we can ski back to the door of the chalet

Bev and I headed for the Champagny side as the sun gets there early. Much better conditions today and you could always get an edge in, unlike yesterday. After a beer stop at Bergerie, I explored the reds down to La Roche and then went down to Montalbert and back via the new gondola. A bit brown in parts lower down, but not too bad.

Headed over to les Arcs today. While the snow in Peisey was a bit sugary in the warmth, up high it was much better. After lunch at la Creche at Col de la Cha we headed down to the Vagere bubble and played in the red bumps below the cable car all afternoon.
It seems there is snow forecast for tomorrow and a significant drop in temperature, both of which will be most welcome.

Went over to Courchevel today - had a lovely time. All lifts worked, pistes in mostly good condition, chocolate chaude cost 5€ 
Back in La Plagne now. And definitely thrilled to meet with the Bishes - suggest Thursday coz tomorrow might be tricky conditions.

Yup. Snowing hard here in 1800. Can see Aime 2000, but not much further. Snow coating the trees. Raod clearers out already.

Well, it was a Woonderful day here in La Plagne.
Complete mix of weather: blizzards, calm with sun, then blizzards again (sun peaking through some cracks in the clouds just now) - but essentially been snowing all day.
Been skiing though knee deep fluffy stuff in all those places only-we-know. At least a foot - sorry: 30cm of snow must have fallen. And cold - had to put on balaclave for first time this season.
Winter seems to have arrived at last.
And lots more forecast for next week. Yummy!
Restaurant update.
Le Sauget, at the top of the chair out of Montachavin, is back in the charge of Pat and Gerard. They "retired" for a season or two and left the place in the hands of a young couple who rather let the place go. Today was back to usual friendly welcome - had a lovely hot chocky and tarte framboise by the fire today watching the snow drift down.
Le Chalet des Colosses, just above and right of the new Colosses lift out of Bellecote (know locally as "Polly's", and with the ice rink) is still as wonderful as ever. Had a superb lunch there of Vegetable Samosa followed by Vegetable Soup (they do an excellent curry)
And our new discovery this season: La Casa de L'Ours in Plagne Village. Very friendly. You can eat in the restaurant or the same menu in the more informal bar. Your standard French ski resort menu, but the pizzas are excellent. Well worth the trip up there.

Jonpim's description of today's weather is spot on. Snow conditions were excellent but being sand-blasted by ice crystals wasn't fun.
We mainly stayed around PV, PS & PC today. However, I made the mistake of dropping down into PB around 3pm and had a fairly unpleasant ride back up Colossus. My final run from there back down to Monica's wasn't very nice either, thanks to the wind blowing straight up the valley between PV and PS.
The bar/restaurant at the top of the Pots in PV is our local when we stay over that side of the PS/PV valley.

What a phenomenal day! Snow, whiteout, blue sky, gales, fresh tracks and last off the mountain. We started by nipping over into la Plagne on the Salla chair and were pleasantly surprised that it was better than expected. Spent an hour or so there off the Colosses and Blanchets lifts before taking Arpette back up into the ice storm & white out that Crozets & Carroley had become, before a nice lunch at Pierre Blanche (aka "The noisy bar"). After lunch we played in the trees above les Coches until the pisteys escorted us off the mountain making fresh tracks all the way home.

Second all of that, plus we had another lovely lunch in Le Borselier. Looking forward to tomorrow - will be taking a trip across the Vanoise.

Headed over to les Arcs today and experienced one of my all time best ski days ever. At the ninth time of trying, spread across the last three years' holidays, I finally got to ski under the Bois de l'Ours lift today. Such a great run, steep & deep all the way down into 1950. So worth the wait! After that, we avoided the queues and took the Comboiciere lift back to the front of the mountain and visited the legend that is Malgovert. Pure quality, and not too busy either. We enjoyed lunch in la Blanche Muree, which we subsequently worked off under the Grizzly & Vallandry lifts all afternoon before heading back across the Vanoise Express to our traditional end of the day vin chaud blanc at the Joli Bois.

Does anyone know why the Glacier has been shut all week or is it just because of the wind and fresh snow? Also did Malgovert this afternoon and it was great! Got to watch a couple of freestyle skiers coming down as part of a competition this afternoon which was unbelievable to watch. It's one thing seeing it on TV but another seeing it before your very eyes

We've rabbitted on about Malgovert for years, but it's so rarely open that my daughter couldn't remember ever having been down it (although she had, when she was little). We took her down it a couple of weeks ago, now aged 19, and now she understands! Such a fun run, must have been great today with fresh snow.

Well, today was as good as it gets.
About 10 cm snow overnight, staying cold, and clear blue skies.
We whizzed over to Villaroger for tart and coffee in the La Ferme.
Lots of untracked off to the side, and even on-piste on the bottom black.
Back via Malgovert, which as others have mentioned is on wonderful condition - again lots of easy to find untracked knee-deep fluffy stuff.
Second yummy pudding at Le Plein Soleil just below Plan Bois (can't be bothered with main courses  ).
Then home via glass of red wine at The Bergerie, which was really heaving with excellent loud disco blasting out and several tables supporting jolly dancers.
So, near perfect pistes everywhere. But where was everyone?
There was a massive queue at the Vanoise - we had to wait for 2 cars to go before we got on - but then there was no queue at the lift the other side (the Vanoise holds 187 people!) and Les Arcs pistes were largely empty, especially those around 1600. We think all those on the Vanoise just evaporated. No other explanation.
