Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

There used to be special skis for that sort of thing.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Yes - whatever happened to grass skis / roller skis?
There used to be a beautiful strip of green irrigated grassy slope in Dizin (Iran) - all around was pretty brown in summer - with a magic carpet 'lift' and which held international grass ski championships.

And long-gone sH, PG's daughter was a keen grass-skier IIRC.

Dubaian, I presume the strip of grass in Dizin is still there, there are races this week.

@rjs, @Dubaian, thanks for that. There's another thing I never knew about. I wonder if they get very many entrants. They appear to be wearing proper grass skis and they are hard to find here anymore. We should probably get it going again if the location of Winter Olympics over the last few games is anything to go by http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=119720

Many years ago (late 70s, early 80s) Hillend offered grass skiing. There were two types on offer: the caterpillar style shown in the link above and a cheaper type that had 4 or 5 in-line wheels. Steering was hard but manageable but stopping was altogether another matter. It was always made harder if they had had a squirt of oil. Toofy Grin Toofy Grin Toofy Grin Toofy Grin

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

rjs, thanks for that update. Brings back happy memories of snow skiing in Dizin late 90's.
Carrying on the cross-thread-postings, now that sanctions are being lifted maybe the Iranians could run a Winter Olympics ?? wink rolling eyes Puzzled wink .

Elevation at the top of Dizin is about 11,000 ft., average snow fall up there is 7m !! And resort bottom elevation is about 8,000 ft. Only one 'black' run though - and that's barely worthy of the name. wink rolling eyes Puzzled wink

I seem to remember a bar in VdI (Jacque's?) which had a picture on the wall of JC Killy skiing down Le Face in midsummer on what might have been steel skis over nothing but rocks. Might all have been my imagination though.
