Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Gear prices USA vs Austria / Euro

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hey I'm heading on a 5 week trip starting in Hawaii and planning on finishing in Innsbruck, Austria where I'll stay for 2 - 3 months from January and ride. The original plan was to head from Hawaii to Evo in Seattle and pick up new board and gear, I picked up all my stuff for Canada at Evo 2 years ago and I ended up making money on my board when I sold at the end of the season it was that cheap. Now the Dollars gone to poo-poo I'm wondering if it's worth getting my gear in the US and lugging it around for 4 weeks through UK and Europe or just getting it once I hit Innsbruck.

Is it much more expensive buying boards etc in Europe or is it worth going wild in the stores in the US? If it's not a whole lot more in Europe I'm thinking it will be worth just getting it there. If it's double the price I'll go wild at Evo and just deal with extra baggage and an extra bag.

First post hope this is the right place to ask.

cheers.

Not sure about Gear prices in the US, but US-EUR exchange rate should be in your favour at the moment.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Check out prices on www.glisshop.com and www.ekosport.eu and do the maths to see what works out better. Is there a risk you could get hit for tax and duty on your return to the US if you buy in Europe?

When do you arrive in IBK? At the start of the season there's a big flea market type thing where all the pro riders sell their skis from last season super cheap. Rightn ow there's loads of bargains to be had online, but they'll dissapear once the new seasons gear hits the shops. Sport Conrad is always worth a look though.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I'm actually on Aus Dollars so the rate is going to be pretty bad ! taxes shouldn't be a problem either. I'm planning on arriving in early January so I will miss any pre season sales I guess. I'll check those links out and see what will work. cheers

@mooney058, there are, but none are particularly cheap (or all that big). Sportler is my favourite as the staff actually know what they're talking about. Die Börse is also good, though more foucssed on free ride (currently bike) stuff. There's also Intersport etc.

Do you mean Brandnertal near Bludenz? If you're heading east to Innsbruck you could also consider rafting on the Ötz (you get wet anyway so rain doesn't matter), or go up to the Aquadome spa in Langenfeld - seriously it's totally heaven, and the outdoor heated pools with mountain views are as awesome in rain as snow.
