Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Maintenance jobs....

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
After my interview with Lè Ski I unfortunately didn't get offered the job....

Does anyone know of any maintenance positions that available for this season?
I have 13 years of electrical and general maintenance experience behind me...

Bad luck,
We're showing a few maintenance jobs:

http://seasonnaireweb.com/?search-class=DB_CustomSearch_Widget-db_customsearch_widget&widget_number=4&-1=6&cs-all-0=&cs-location-2=&cs-sector-3=&cs-job_role-4=Maintenance&search=Search

I worked for Ski Beat for 3 years and they're good to work for. The guy who was my Maintenance/Driver in Meribel was a qualified electrician and most of the other resort maintenance guys were also qualified in various trades but it's not essential. Did you get any feedback as to why you didn't get the job? Could be something as simple as returning staff nipped in ahead of you so don't worry about it.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@dheason, I shall take a look at your site Smile
That's the reason given to me, a returning member of staff has confirmed that they're going to be coming back.

Happens quite a lot, generally people say they're not coming back then have a change of heart after not having to deal with guests for a few months!

@UnumPila, a lot of small companies will fill their positions by word of mouth without advertising directly. I'd internet search for independent companies with a few chalets and contact them directly with cv and cover letter. I did this when I was looking for work and had a very positive response, despite many of the companies not even mentioning on their own websites that they were looking for staff. I shortlisted 10 companies to apply to and got some sort of positive response from 8 of them (interview/phone call/offer). That was for chalet hosting, not maintenance, so I'd expect it to be a bit harder for you as there are less positions, but I think the principle will still work. Also try the jobs board in the solutions room on chalets direct.

@Gämsbock,

Thank you!

We're putting a job up today with Ice and Fire for Maintenance/Driver, as it's not live yet I've copied the JD below, if you're interested their site is http://www.ice-fire.co.uk/about-us/ski-season-work-with-us and all the application details are there.

The position of maintenance person is a very flexible one with a wide variety of challenges, you will need to be highly adaptable, able to use your initiative and turn your hand to many different things.
You will be responsible for looking after the general maintenance of the chalets, fixing problems as they arise and driving guests when required.
You will also be helping in the chalets and with the general day to day logistics.

What's the deal with just heading out to the resorts to find work?
Are the forums for room sharing etc??

Lots of folks do just head out. There's forums and websites dedicated to finding people to share with and you get the advantage of choosing your resort and accommodation in advance.

If you're confident enough to go it alone then it could be great. I'd suggest that you use the relevant Facebook Forum to find people who really know the resort and they'll generally say who is recruiting, where the best place to live are (and avoid!) and who is looking for a room mate. They'll also put up the odd cash in hand job over the winter (or you can make yourself known when you get settled) which will help.

 You know it makes sense.
You know it makes sense.
Years ago, in my 20's I drooled on the idea of spending a season in the mountains but I had a job with a large multinational chemical co and would have found it difficult to get back in if I left the job so I was envious of those around me that got made redundant and had the decision made for them. Years went by and I got married and had kids, then the barstewards made me redundant!!!, which actually was the best career move I had made for me and I have made a little bit more money in property. Having split with Mrs T earlier this year and being self employed in the property and construction business?????, how many of us have been taught to ski by someone that is a sparky or chippy in the summer?. Though my skiing level is easily good enough for BASI I know I'd be a rubbish teacher so the maintenance jobs would be more up my street as I am very good at fixing things, wish I'd never seen this thread now, there's a devil setting up home on my shoulder!.

Idea and devil killed off,.... just had email from Mrs T.... child and horse maintenance costs.... not much change out of £1000/month!,.... I suppose I could be saving by not needing to heat the house in the winter but at this rate the heating won't be on in any case!!! Sad Sad Sad Sad

@tangowaggon, I did my first season after splitting up from the missus, I funded most of it from re-mortgaging the house! You could look at doing a shorter season, head out January/February as cover... save up in the meantime! Toofy Grin
