Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

France in February

The hardest thing in arranging out trip next year is pinning down the week and ensuring that everyone can get the time off!

It looks like we're all free in the second week of Feb (6th - 13th), previously we've opted for the first week in Jan which is great for avoiding the crowds, although less snowsure this year.

Does anyone have any advice on the best week to aim a trip for in February, does the second week in Feb clash with French school holidays or tends to be horrendously busy?

Many Thanks

@Bradlex, that is the first week of the 4 week long French break. There will only be one area on holiday then (Zone B) and it won't be Paris, so might be OK.

@Hells Bells, ahh I see, thanks for the steer, have just seen how it works via wikipedia.

The shortlist resortwise is L2A, Val Thoren, Serre Chevealier so I'm not sure if the impact will me different by resort?

@Bradlex, http://www.education.gouv.fr/cid87910/calendrier-scolaire-pour-les-annees-2015-2016-2016-2017-2017-2018.html shows the regions and date. Serre Chevalier has lots of visitors from Aix-Marseille.

@Bradlex, I'm sure lots can recommend areas to look at (and recognise this isn't what your original post asks!).. But we spent a week in Valmeinier during British Feb half term (and part of France, but not sure which areas!), it wasn't packed by any means and we only really spent any time queueing at one pinch point on one day.

Not as big an area as VT or SC, but I think it was probably on a par with L2A - even though L2A is marketed as being bigger.

Views on Tignes 27th Feb - 5th March? Just Zone C (Paris). I'm looking to go this week.

French resorts are last resorts for the Paris holiday weeks.

@hammerite, sure thanks, we tend to use UCPA so are limited to an extent, however from previous post advice it looks like Serre Che, L2A and VT are good options (we have skied VDI/Tignes 2 years in a row).

Chamonix, Argentiere, Flaine, La Plagne are all options with UCPA but we'd discounted them either due to bussing to the slopes, quiet apres, not challenging/too challenging for improving intermiediate piste skiing.

But I would be happy to re-prioritise based on how busy the slopes will be.

@pam w, do you mean the Paris weeks correlate with the busiest weeks?

Many Thanks

@Bradlex, especially if there is also another French region on holiday. The final week is not too bad though. If you are with UCPA, you won't be affected too much by lift queues.

@Bradlex, I suspect that @pam w doesn't been that the Paris week is the busiest - just that the Parisians are a little more OTT than the rest of the country(wo)men. Oh and don't talk to me about the kids Sad

Paris weeks generally are busiest and definitely most unpleasant . Pushy, impatient queues. Is that really your only option ? UCPA instructors will find suitable slopes for your level and also get you lift priority.

@pam w, the week we're looking at is the second week in Feb - so not the Paris weeks. It looks like the earliest we can get everyone available. Only other option would be March.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

The second week in March, after the French holidays finish, would be infinitely preferable.

What @pam w says. Week starting 5/6th March would be even better

Watch out for the Dutch Half Term too. We found Val Thorens very busy that week a few years ago (early March IIRC)
