Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Chamonix lift access for non skiers

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Going to chamonix with the family and parents next winter. For non skiers, are they able to get up the mountain so they can meet us for lunch. Essentially, can they pay just for one lift up? Also, any recommendations on the best area to go where an unsteady grandmother can get off the lift and walk to the restaurant without tackling any steep slopes. I was thinking Le Tour.
Thanks

I think all of the cable cars/bubbles accept pedestrians.

Le Tour only gives easy access to the Charamillon self service, which is a bit rubbish. The Olympic at the car park was OK a few weeks ago.

Brevent gives option of Bergerie which is OK but pricey and the restaurant at the top of the Brevent cable car, which has amazing views but I've not eaten there.

@ le tour, Le Passon at the bottom is much better than L'Olympique, and accepts bookings (which are essential most of the season) unlike olympique. You can ski the resort run and meet them there. Its 50m walk on level tarmac from the bus stop, so ideal.

Alternatively, there's the restaurant(s) at Vallorcine easily accessible on the train form Cham (nice train ride) - one by the station, one 500m walk away on flat tarmac (Cafe Comptoir) both of which its easy for you to ski down to and meet them there.

As mentioned by @under a new name, Charamillon @ le tour is easy to get to - I find the food ok if you go for the dish of the day type stuff. Could always take a picnic. There's a picnic room and big terrace.

@ Argentiere the rider cafe is ok - if the weather is nice the terrace is beautiful, food mediocre. 50m from cable car which takes walkers.

If gran can walk a long way on flat snow, then there's a lovely pedestrian/snowshoe cat track at Argentiere to Plan Joran - maybe 1km.

My favourite non-skier place to eat is the Grands Hotels des Montenevers at the top of the VB rack railway. Excellent food and an amazing location.

@Mr Pieholeo, even since change of ownership, 2-3 seasons ago? It looked good when we had a beer on our last day of the season.

@snowdave, have you eaten if Cafe Comptoir? BiL did in its first season and was unimpressed.

@snowdave, very nice website - which I checked to see whether they were related to Comptoir Cafe in Geneva.

Must drop in sometime.
