Hi arriving in munich on 4th march at 10.25 am leaving 9th march at 8 pm. need to organise transport for three to Soll. havent been there before.. not sure if train is the best option! Also find the website for trains confusing! is the train direct, from munich to soll? Driving is not an option so its either a taxi or trains and taxi. How much does it cost? Wish my German was better. any advice appreciated!

Why not use the airport shuttle service??
less stress involved
https://www.tirol-taxi.at/
On the train looks like you take the S Bahn from the airport to Munich Ost, Then from Munich Ost platform 8 to Kufstien. Shuttle / Taxi from Kufstien to resort.
I think the airport shuttle would work out just about the same. @ Euro 85 return each.
This assumes Munchen main/international airport (not Memmingen)

If you do the train then be aware that some group tickets are really good value. The Bayern ticket (Bavaria) covers a group for €23 plus €5 for each extra person and you can go anywhere in Bavaria for a day. I am pretty sure this will get you to Kufstein which is just on/over the border (it does for Salzburg which is also the first stop in Austria). You can't take IC or ICE express trains but it covers S Bahn and all regional trains.

thanks a mill! What site are you using to look up the train tickets? is that €23 and then €10 extra so €33 for three people? for the two trains for the day? Better to book online now or can you get the ticket at the train station? thanks again.

@Suesue14, A Bayern Ticket bought at the airport is valid for both the S-Bahn to either the Ostbahnhof or Hauptbahnhof and then on to Kufstein. I would get an S8 to the Ostbahnhof then change platforms to the one for the trains to Rosenheim and on to Kufstein. Going to the Hauptbahnhof involves a very long slog with luggage from one corner of a huge area to the diagonally furthest. The S1 also goes to both stations (Hauptbahnhof forst then Ostbahnhof) but it is generally a longer and slower route. The S8 goes to the Ostbahnhof first then the Hauprtbahnhof.
You pay 23 Euro for the ticket and then 5 Euro for every additional passenger up to a maximum of 5 passengers, so yes in your case it would be a total cost of 33 Euro. Once you have your ticket you validate it by writing the names of all the people travelling on that ticket on the reverse side. Failing to do so invalidates the ticket and some guards are now charging people the standard single fee plus a fine for travelling without a valid ticket.
Try and make sure you get a through train to Kufstein, some of the "faster trains" require you to change again at Rosenheim (my local station). Although not very big it again involves changing platforms and lugging your baggage around.

@Samerberg Sue,
Is that a return price or one way?

It is a one day, go anywhere, ticket not for any specific journey. So you can go out and back the same day but would need 2 tickets to travel out and back on different days

Can be bought on the day at the machines or desk at the airport, make sure you have a pen handy and write everyones names on it.

Buy it at the desk at the airport it is better and they will guide you through the timetable as well as the regulations. You cannot use any of the ICE or EC trains with it otherwise they will charge each of you the surcharge - last time I got caught it was 18 Euro but that was about 4 years ago.
The ticket is valid for 24 hours and can be a return IF it is used in the 24 hours in which it is bought. I often use the Bayern Ticket to go to various location in Bavaria and places like Salzburg (also valid).
You can also buy your return section at the same time by the way. It will be dated for your return date, this is another reason for going to the desk at the airport to buy your ticket.

I've booked a train transfer back to Munich for my next trip, Radstadt to Munich airport via Ostbahnhof for €24, absolute bargain. Yes it takes the best part of four hours but all I need to do is sit on a train and watch wistfully as the mountains gradually disappear from view. I found the DB website really clear and easy to use.

@musher, yes they are. They pick up a lot of German passengers who use the trains, especially the family deals, to get to the area. There are also buses to the resorts waiting at the station, but they won't take you to the door of your hotel unless you are lucky enough to have a bus stop right outside of it!

@Suesue14 - I looked into similar situation last year and went for shuttle service as only a wee bit more cash and a whole lot less hassle and twice as fast. Train & bus was cheapest option but over an hour waiting time (more buses from Worgl if you look at this option) . It will depend on your flight times of course. Train and taxi from Kufstein (or Worgl) was almost same price as shuttle from MUN airport and took longer. This year going to Ellmau with family- cheapest & quickest option is to hire a car at just over 120E- even though car not being used for most of the week. Good luck & Have fun!
