Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

integrated shovel backpack

Poster: A snowHead
While away recently I saw a guy with a really lightweight shovel / backpack. It was more of a rucksack type harness with an integrated shovel.

I done loads of searching on google, but can't find anything similar. Anyone come across anything like this?

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Cody Townsend has one similar in Days of My Youth - caught my eye - I too can't find the exact model, but he's a pic in case it helps anyone else:

I just tweeted Cody to ask if he knows the model but I doubts he will reply ><

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

That looks like an ABS pack with a shovel strapped on the outside. You can do that a DaKine Heli pack for example.

There's an American company who used to make a thing which is basically just the shovel in a backpack harness with a very small pouch under the blade, designed for shovel and probe. I can find the company name if anyone cares, but they stopped making them. I ride with a lass (skier) who uses one of those.

Me, I like a warm back.

You probably need to look at snowmobile back packs, as the rider only needs the minimal amount of space. Such as this....

As mentioned, the smaller Dakine packs can take an external shovel, or there is this gilet come backpack creation....

Thanks folks. I one I saw was even more compact than Cody's. philwig, it sounds just like the one I saw, if you could find the company name that would be great

Yeah @Jon181, I figured you meant much more compact than that one after a second read - sorry.

The pack I'm thinking of, which is basically shovel shapes, is a "Mystery Ranch Broomstick". Well you did ask. It is out of production, as far as my buddy knows. I may have a shot somewhere but it looks kind of like a black wrapper for a shovel. His is in Blue River (he's in Salt Lake) so can't just get a shot...

As Philwig said it's made by Mystery Ranch. details here...

Apparently they are going to start producing ski packs again next year, but I've no idea if they will continue to produce Broomstick packs.
