Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Missed the new snow and lifts running at Weardale yesterday (stuck at work) Confused - but headed up this afternoon after the rapid rise in temperatures and overnight rain...

The sun came out periodically, the wind was very strong and the temperature dropped during the walk in from the car - on foot as no snow for skinning up, just a bit of snow on the runs now. It snowed heavily for about 5 mins as we set off to ski down the top zig zag of M1.

Managed to ski to the bottom of F2 lift with one short section of grass skiing. The 'run' next to F1 lift is now little more than the tow track - good fun but you wouldn't want it much narrower. Nice soft snow on our first top to bottom run but, after skinning back up and a leisurely cuppa in the daylodge, it had started to re-freeze with the temperature drop.

Another fun Weardale ski day Very Happy.

I was passing through upper Teesdale today, there's mostly just patches remaining dotted around the hills apart from the old Harwood site where it looked like you'd be able to skin / ski from the road up to the top of the old tows. Not particularly wide by the looks of it but still skiable. Unfortunately it's a bit of hosing tonight so not sure what would remain. Cloud was down at about 700m(ish) so couldn't really say what Meldon Hill / Dun Fells / Cross Fells were like.

Lured back up to Weardale late afternoon today by the prospect of March Pennines skiing Very Happy.

- Raining when we got to Stanhope; turned to snow on the climb up the ski road; dumping as we set off on foot across the fell - scenery transformed to winter by the time we reached the daylodge.
- Remaining runs nicely refreshed by the new snow - although it amounted to no more than about 1 cm of fresh.
- M1 particularly good - skiable from just above the top zig-zag and full width.
- F1 much reduced from our last trip three days ago - but possible to ski onto the adjacent grass because of the new snow wink.

Another worthwhile trip - but is it the last of winter 2014-15 Puzzled

Hiked up at Weardale today to see if there was any snow left. Nothing lower down but some skiable patches on the upper runs - nice soft snow Very Happy

Aye, we're (a) Keen and (b) Easily pleased by a day outdoors in the hills, whether hiking, mountain biking or skiing. We'd planned on going up to Scotland but didn't make it - so it was a bonus to find some snow under an hour away Very Happy.

Some of the snow patches were actually quite entertaining - the one on the last pic is a lot steeper than it appears and all were longer than they look on the photos (due to being compressed by zoom lens use).

Mountainaddict, you and Mrs Mountainaddict are perfect Raise material Cool

If you have a Yad Moss season ticket then you can ski Raise for £10 a day. Unfortuantely there is no reciprocal arrangement with Weardale.

I agree! It's a mere pop of a drive to get there and the hike in wouldn't bother us...It's a fair cop - I hold my hands up - no excuses.... Embarassed It's on our to do list - honest!

Not looking so good for this weekend though is it??

Aha! So a good approach might be for us to join both Weardale and Yad Moss? (We prefer Weardale over Yad because of the relative lack of crowds so don't want to give that up, especially it being members only on weekends.)

......Or we could lobby for change by writing to our MP (plus a copy to The Times for good measure) Laughing

Some final queries:
- Do you still have to pay a joining fee for Raise if you are utilising the Yad Moss reciprocal arrangement? Or just the £10 a go.
- If you join Raise under the £35/ski for a day membership, can you pay for extra days on top of that?

All white again on today's North Pennines webcams Very Happy - though warming up/rain coming/windy so skiing probably unlikely over coming days Confused.

Cheers Zero_G! That's looking like that for the North Pennines for 2014/15 - although the lifts have been known to spin for an odd day after a snap early-April snowfall.

We generally keep ski touring into May and June in Scotland - so still a bit to go yet. After an epic winter of big snow a few years back we found an entertaining 100m snow patch over the back of Cairngorm Mountain....in August Laughing.
