Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Base Cleaner - what is it/do I need it?

 Poster: A snowHead

I will be prepping my skis for the season soon and had a couple of questions about ski base cleaning, before waxing.

1. What is the purpose of using a base cleaner (other that the obvious!)?
2. What is it made of? - Do I need to buy a purpose made base cleaner from a manufacturer or has anyone made their own?

I look forward to hearing any opinions on this Very Happy

It's to strip all the wax out of the base, I only use it before a repair and not before rewaxing.

Instead, if you are just rewaxing, wax and hotscrape a couple of times to remove dirt n nasties.

I've no idea what's in it; but it doesn't taste very nice unless you use tonic water with it.

+1.

And it's great for cleaning your plexi scraper.

Most of 'em, inc my own brew/brand, are citrus based solvents.

Thanks Marc and Spyderjon!

Jon - what is your own brew? If you are open to sharing the magic of course! Very Happy

@joeyg, Zardoz-Super-Citrus-Cleaner seems to work well.
