 Poster: A snowHead

Fellow heads of snow, I've read that there is some skiing that you can do whilst taking this train, e.g. around the Lake Baikal area (one of Russia's biggest lakes).
Anyone have any more info of skiing here or anywhere on the route?

Great minds? I'm planning on doing the trans-siberian this winter, flying to Beijing, then Harbin for the ice festival, then all the way back to London by train.
Places that I've shortlisted, not sure how easy they will be to actually ski at:
- Harbin - somewhere. Not much research done here yet.
- Gora Sobolinya near Baikalsk - about two hours from Irkutsk, I think
- Bobrovy Log - seems to be actually in Krasnoyarsk
- Ezhovaya - about 2 hours north of Yekaterinburg, day trippable
- Kazan - appears to have a resort about 30km from the city (slight detour from the usual route)
- Silichy - about 30km from Minsk
My expectations are not high - a couple of hours sliding around will be enough.

There's also a small area outside of Beijing (xisan or west mountain from memory). Should be fairly easy to access from Beijing.
I did a bit of research few years back, didn't much like the potential at Harbin. Can't remember the reason though. It's either the access or size of area. Instead, the area near Beijing stuck in my mind instead.
(I never did make the trip so don't have any first hand information to add)

My plans are at a pretty early stage at the mo.
In terms of accessibility from the TSE, anywhere that's easy to reach (maybe up to a few hours) by public transport from the station.
Would be great if the train actually stopped in a ski-resort town but expect that's pretty unlikely.

Yes ther will be snow. 
Baykalsk resort has 5 lifts and 15 km of piste. You may meet Putin there. I don't think the TSE stops at Baykalsk but you could break your journey at Irkutsk which is 148 km away (make sure you have separate tickets for each leg of the TSE) . You can retrace to Baykalsk by train (about £20). You could do a long 'day' excursion package from Irkutsk. Plenty of other things to do like cross-country skiing, skating, dog sledding or take a train around lake Baikal. You have a lot of research and planning to do & unless you use an agent which may be advisable if you don't speak Russian. Getting visas for China, Mongolia and Russian is a pain dependent on your nationality. It sounds like quite an adventure.

hm... are there mountines to ski? are they similar like Kaukaz, Dombaj? or... could you tell me more.
