Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

PYRENEES 2014/15

mrvinegar, it's been quite a windy season in general on the Spanish and Andorran side at least, but Cerler has the infamy of being the windiest resort of the Pyrenees due to having the highest peaks of the range directly to the north together with the fact that most low pressure fronts that hit the Pyrenees come from the north - thus creating a Venturi Effect.

It's such a pity, because Cerler has some nice skiing; alas this year the best bits such as the harder pistes and off-piste down Pico Cerler have only been open for a few days in the whole season. The plans to expand the resort look nice on paper but it's hard to see how it would make business sense in practice.

In the one year in 5 in which the Pyrenees is hit by southerlies instead of northerlies, though, Cerler is the undisputed queen of the range, flourishing when others are struggling badly!

Just had a couple of days cruising the pistes of Grandvalira. Snow coverage was still very good, but conditions were to be expected, rock hard in the morning and very soft in the afternoon. The slopes were quiet even with ski racing, a snowboard comp in the main park and the Easter holidays coming up.

The ribs in The Underground in Pas de la Casa were exceptional as always, and finding a bottle of Bolly for €39 in the Trattoria mountain restaurant above El Tartar was too hard to resist.

The only time we queued was waiting to pass through the boarder back into France. They were stopping everyone to check they hadn't gone over their duty free limits.
