Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Just back from 2 great days in Scotland - at Nevis and Glencoe. Soft spring snow, wall to wall sun and 16-20C at car park level. And Braveheart Chair open at Nevis too! What's not to like wink ?

That's it for Nevis as yesterday was their last day Sad - although the Back Corries and Goose will be offering great touring opportunities for a while yet as they are still loaded. There was still over 500m of vertical available on the front of the mountain on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Glencoe has 7 metres of snow in the Main Basin and is planning on staying open for May Day turns Very Happy. And Cairngorm will be open for a while yet.

Pics to follow....

@mountainaddict, shame NR is closing this weekend but good to see Glencoe making hay while the sun is shining. Re. the bikes, we just dumped them out of sight a little way from the stalkers path on the way up to Loch a Bhealaich Bheithe. It genuinely is the middle of nowhere, 5 miles from the summit, and 12 miles from the nearest road so there's next to no risk of having them stolen or damaged.

After temps in the low to mid 20s in the Highlands, snow is forecast to be back this weekend Smile.

And Nevis is opening the Goose Chair for 2 hours on Sat and Sun for ski tourers to access the high level snow. Great that they are prepared to do that! Shame we can't make it this weekend - wonder if anything similar is planned for the May Day bank holiday weekend?

Just wondering though, if the lift's open two hours, what's to stop people lapping the chair/downhilling Puzzled

Snow has been piling up over recent days at Glencoe in particular, but also a fair bit at CairnGorm - though terrain there is mostly green and a couple of blues, while Glencoe has the full spectrum and the vast majority of the mountain open. Plateau Poma is running so it's ski off the Access Chair and onto the Poma to access the mountain. snowHead

Last day is Bank Holiday Monday (4th) for lift-served skiing, but the access chair still runs for the rest of the year and they have no daft Cairngorm style rules.....

From their website - "The chairlift also allows access to walkers, climbers, paragliders and other mountain sports without the initial effort of climbing the mountain".

Just back from a 2 day road trip, Cairngorm yesterday, and Glencoe today. Cairngorm was loaded with freshies, a day of sunshine & snow showers, and about 20 skiers & boarders on the hill. Glencoe was a bit busier, but only a bit with a maximum lift queue around 2 minutes. Pretty much non-stop skiing both days on seriously good quality snow Cool

Cairngorm - White Lady powder ...

Cairngorm - Snow showers across the Cas ...

Cairngorm - Pick a line freshies ...

Glencoe - Northern skyline from the summit T-Bar ...

Glencoe today was really busy. Big queues for the main basin t-bar. Snow was excellent on the main basin. Fly paper was closed. Have to walk back to the chair at the end of the day as the plateau run has hardly any snow on it.

Yesterday felt like January heavy wet snow and poor visibility. Today looks excellent. Lots of people skiing in the sunshine. The rumour is it may not be the last lifted served day in the uk .........

Arrived Glencoe first thing Bank Hol Mon to find rain, strong wind at car park level...and the lifts on hold Confused.

The wind dropped suddenly, the sun started to break through and at 10 am it was Thunderbirds are go Very Happy.

A great day in the end - cover amazing for May Day, although it was heavy going in the hot sun. Fairly busy too but no queues for Cliffhanger Chair or Wall T Bar - 4-6min wait for the top T Bar, so not too bad.

The Plateau tow track had broken in overnight rain - but was 90% skiable down at the end of the day.

There is still a load of snow up there - enough for ski touring into June by the look of things Very Happy - just a shame that's it for lift-served turns.

Good news re Cairngorm but still a shame that that's it for Glencoe given the amount of snow....I recall one year many moons ago (1995-ish?) they advertised summer skiing and opened for skiing in Whit Week.

Anyway, here's yesterday - May Day Bank Hol 2015 Very Happy

Great day skinning at Glencoe yesterday - me, Mrs MA, Bergmeister and his missus. Snow cover is just amazing for the time of year - it's possible to ski almost back to The Wall tow and Cliffhanger Chair!

Delayed start due to rain on arrival but the sun came out and we went up about 11 o' clock. There was a distinctive snow line on surrounding mountains - views were stunning but looked more like winter than almost June.

The snow was heavy - with about 4" of warmed up fresh at the top - but not as sticky as we had feared. Great fun overall with late May fresh tracks available. Saw about five or six other skiers and boarders - plus two mental mountain bikers who were having a tough time sinking into the snow on their descent of the Main Basin.

By late afternoon, the fresh snow ended up well tracked across the mountain due to volume of traffic - hard going in some of the chopped up areas. Still great fun though.

Forgot the memory card for my camera - but will try and get hold of some pics from Bergmeister.

There's more snow than on the same weekend last year. We skied Glencoe at the end of June that year...Could a July slide be on the cards??
