Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

with difficulties, and at considerable expense. The best alternative to driving is probably to hitch.

There will be coach transfers to Milan, then train to chambery and transfer from there?
Alternative seems to be to get to Innsbruck, fly to gva and transfer from there.
Or Venice then easyjet to GVA, etc.
This may help http://www.skiingitaly.net/transfers_to_dolomites.html

The best bet in my humble opinion is to use the train. Get the bus to Bruneck then the train to Milan - it takes about 5 hours and costs about 40 euro. http://www.virail.com/train-brunico-milan/2014-09-30 then get the train from Milan to Bourg st Maurice, about 100 euro and 7 hours. Then get the bus upto Tignes. The slightly longer bus journey to Brixen and the shorter train journey might be slightly quicker overall.

Good luck at least 4 changes and 2 busses. and probably not much change from 200 euro.

Closer to the date I suggest you start searching the rail web sites

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

johnE, excuse my doubting you, but there's no way you can get a train from Milan to BSM in 7 hours (or for 100€). You can barely get a train from Geneva to BSM in that time!

stevomcd, 10 seconds on the sncf web site http://www.voyages-sncf.com/billet-train/resultat?hid=DHM gives the 8:50 train tomorrow morning as 6 hours and 5 minutes and 103 euro. This is the main line between Italy and France through the Frejus tunnel. It needs a single change at Chambery. Geneva to Bourg of course is one of those round about routes that takes for ever and costs a fortune.

johnE, fair enough, I just looked myself and got no results at all - although I did pick a random Saturday in winter rather than tomorrow!

stevomcd, I take it you remembered the 3 month SNCF rule. I find the history of the line from Paris to Italy fascinating, especially the mountain railway that ran over the col du Cenis
