Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Dave,

Tignes is usually included (was last year). I'd look at getting the bus from BStM rather than driving., If memory serves, parking in Tignes is not cheap. I'd check before you set out if I were you. I've always wanted to go over the top from La Plagne and join up with the outskirts of Tignes - maybe this year Very Happy

Why is it so difficult to load this picture here. It went on my facebook post in seconds. Please can someone tell me again, what am I doing wrong? Thanks!

In the mean time until I can get this right. If you want to see the photo please take a look at my last post on the Les Arcs Winter facebook page.

If anyone is driving up to Tignes for a 'days' skiing. You can park for free at Val Claret Parking area near lifts if you have a one day ski pass. We did this quite a few times last season.

@RattytheSnowRat, you do know that skiing from La Plagne to Tignes is almost all uphill. A very long ski day. Better to go from Tignes to La Plagne, mostly downhill, but with a long skate at the end into Champagny uper village, then taxi bus to main village and back into the lift system. I like this route, can be done easy ski route or hard ski route. Also possible to go direct to Les Arcs, but a little harder.

@snowcrazy, I think I have figured out how to solve your issue. @rob@rar had posted about it too here... http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=113626&highlight=

The answer came from @davidof, you take this bit of code
Code:
<img src="">
and between the " " put the url for your photo from Facebook, with no gaps. I have put in a box here so you can see what it looks like
Code:
<img src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/10805555_745968078812994_2573381740417396219_n.jpg?oh=d10f0828dd7d2067cb6690edb17a85c0&oe=54DAA50E&__gda__=1424337334_95d4f4fbe3865048b8d63a73db63b161">

Take the box away....Thanks to @davidof. No idea how or why this works but it does.......................

Hope that helps.

Another week has passed and it is snowing in Les Arcs at the top of Mont Blanc Chair, but still raining down at Arc 1800. Hope the freezing level starts to get lower soon.

Remember today is the last chance for discounted holiday passes so hurry.

(Les Arcs, top of Mont Blanc Chair today at 11.50)

(Now I know it works, here is a second photo. You can see the snow line just above Arc 1800. Still a lot of building work going on in Edenarc.)

Thanks for the help with the photo fatcontroller it worked Very Happy

RattytheSnowRat. I have also always bought a ski a la carte card since they first started. Really useful if you visit other ski areas like Espace Killy or further away and want a daily discount. I always manage to cover the cost of the card and get some added discount so worth the price I pay. I agree that anyone only wanting to pay for the days they ski, it is a good idea and cheaper than the normal weekly pass if you have a day off. Plus you only pay for where you ski ie. Les Arcs side. But if you go to La Plagne for a day the extra cost is just added for that day. No need to get another pass as it works on both sides of the Vanoise Express.

(I just Edited this post)

Be very careful with kids if looking at Ski Carte...... wink i.e. there is no kids options. Kids pay adult prices.

@thefatcontroller, You beat me to it this morning.

Here are photos of the other ski stations, Pity they still do not have the webcams in Arc 1950 or anything in Arc 2000 working. But at least the Arpette Ridge webcam is on.
Good to see snow down below Arc 1600 and completely covering the Arc 2000 bowl. Let us hope it stays cold and starts to form a base. Snow line is at about 1300m.

@vfr750cbr, You need to go to the link and read all the details. It is in English. Easy to follow. As I said already, it works well and if you also get passes for Under 18 year olds they are free.
But as was pointed out, the daily rate is a flat charge with NO children's discount so you need to do the maths. You might need to call them to find out what it will really cost you each time you ski with the kids.
This year there is a discount every 5 days after the ninth day (pay only 1 Euro). I still recommend you read all the details online.

Hope that all helps.

I can save you a phone call, everyone pays adult prices. When we have used Ski Carte we have bought normal resort based ski pass. Couldn't see a way to make Ski Cater work for kids. Adults, yes, just work out all the options but it has its place.

We've used the Ski Carte pass for the last three years and it's well worth it as you only pay for the days you ski and as we often ski with friends in La Rossiere we get a good discount there. The only problem with La Ross is that you have to go to the ticket office each day and buy a daily ticket as the pass does not work with their lift barriers. I can definitely recommend it for adults.

To much time on my hands this morning. This looks so nice I just had to post it. Now I will take the risk and say the snow is starting to look good enough to begin forming a base and not all disappear again! Hope I am right.

Anyone coming out, I shall be in Les Arcs for the start of the season. For anyone else around, how about we try to meet up on the Sunday for an easy ski to get our legs back when more lifts are open.

+1 for kicking and boy you're being picky, Personally I'm with snowcrazy I would refer to that area as the top of Transarc wink Laughing

As an aside do you think these areas realise how important cams are (not just for saddos like us Embarassed Embarassed ) but people potentially book holidays based on them or not as may be the case when they see no snow... Puzzled

@thefatcontroller, Haven't seen any issues with them until this year. The choice was always great too. Not very good, though I am annoyed with P&V in general this week. Booked early for mid-jan and they've gone and knocked another 200 euros off the apartment price for those booking now (offered 30% discount for Christmas too). Mid-march has gone up considerably since I booked last month (from just over 1000 euros, to 1400+..Italy here I come if it stays that way). I'm not happy.

EDIT: The prices have changed again, so I'm confused. Now that Christmas has booked up, the discounts are back on for January and March at silly money. I'll not be booking another week unless they adjust.

@Arctic Roll, Yes technically you are right, but as Toofy Grin @thefatcontroller, says this whole area is mostly referred to as the top of the transarc. That is what I tell people when we are meeting there. It is almost the same place.

Anyway Very Happy I cannot spell Arcabulle when I am in a hurry. Toofy Grin More to the point. It does look nice today, sorry to read some people are having trouble with the cams. They were ok for me at lunch time when I quickly did the snips (thanks again fatcontroller). I was told a short time ago that it is still a little thin now that the sun has been out. Oh well fingers crossed for more snow at the weekend. Just in time for me to have a ski Very Happy

On another good note, although there are still problems to be sorted out, the Arc 1800 development is going well. Fingers crossed for it being open in time for this season, even if not at the beginning on 13 December.

A friend of mine hiked up yesterday and boarded back down he said that there's about 40cms of snow on the ground at the very top. Whilst I was talking to Paradiski on Twitter yesterday and they seem to think 60cms, to be honest I take what they say with a pinch of salt though! It would be good it they would bring a camera on-line down in 1800 so we could see the progress of the development work. I'm really interested to see how it all comes together when I first get out on Dec 27th.
