Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

help to ski bum France

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hey,

Basically Me and my girlfriend are really keen on driving to France next season and spending some time at a few resorts. We don't really want to work, especially not full time.
Has anyone got advice for us?

I like the idea of traveling in a motor home and just parking up where ever and setting up camp, but in reality I reckon it would be difficult to park a motor home in the resorts in a half decent location close to lifts/slopes... Has anyone else done this??
Maybe hostels are a better idea?

Where is good value for money? When it comes to accommodation, food etc?

Any other advice would appreciated!

Thanks

Jon_g, Welcome to snowHead There have been a few threads on motorhomes, here are a couple, there are plenty more if you do a search

One thing to bear in mind is that a season pass for one resort costs about the same as 3 weeks or so of weekly passes. So you could save a lot on that by basing yourself in one resort, they mostly have quite a few day passes to other resorts included.

Jon_g, Welcome to Snowheads. snowHead What kind of budget? If you have a well-insulated motorhome that could work - there are plenty of sites near to lifts but for facilities such as toilets and hot showers you will need to pay. If you don't have a motorhome it would probably be quite an expensive option.

One issue is lift pass - you probably need to focus on one "lift pass area". Some are quite big - obviously the 3V and Espace Killy. But e.g. Evasion Mont Blanc and the Grand Massif both have lots of skiing and would be cheaper. Check out deals for buying season passes in advance - some big savings to be had.

Thanks for the replies. I'm swaying away from the idea of living in a motor home. The 3 valleys was an area I was thinking of going.

Am I right in think that staying in hostels is the cheapest way to go?

Our total budget would be about £5k and would ideally like around 2-3 months

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

If you're flexible on where you want to go and what you want to live in then you could then you could find somewhere with the rent for the full season (1st December to 30th April) for sub €3,500.

If you want some help to explore the options then please get in touch!!
